What happens to Supermans clothing as he transforms?
Since I was a boy and saw the first film, I've wondered what happens to his clothes when he becomes Superman.

First he spins around fast in a revolving door and poof! He's in his costume.
Second he dives out of the Daily Planets window and poof! Clothes just fade away
In the second movie he runs through an alley and blurs into Superman.

and so on...

In the trailer of the new movie you get to see Clark Kent fly through the upper hatch of an elevator and his clothes come off and fall away as he flies up the elevator shaft.

1. He leaves his socks on the floor for Lois to pick up. Bastard.
I assume they're left crumpled up on the floor of the phone booth.

2. He eats them at super fast speed...
Of course, unless he's got a super colon, he'll have to wait 2 days...

12. Of course he has a super colon
and what's more, his super digestion is 100% efficient but also intelligent enough to tell the difference between food and clothes, so they come out clean! In fact they come out cleaner than when they went in! Saves on cleaning bills too.

3. In the original Superman comics, he wears his costume under his civies...
and he changes at super speed and compresses and packs away his street clothes in a little pouch on the underside of his cape. That's what I remember anyway.

6. I wonder if he
has a super power that allows him to iron out the clothes quickly after they've been scrunched up like that. Do his heat ray eyes have a gentle steam setting?

9. Honestly, if I had a better joke I would have used it.
I fell back on a tired, old cliche. Now I feel dirty.

17. In the Sandman...
...Supes appears briefly as his own dream icon: Clark Kent with his clothing falling open to reveal the costume beneath.

18. yep
in the comics, he has a pouch ,on the under side of his cape, where he puts his street clothes...

In the movies however, they don't explain it, you just see a superfast/change clothes sequence...:)

4. He simply puts them on under his outfit.
That's why we see the outline of a necktie, pants, shoes and so forth under the costume.

13. It was kind of like the wonder woman series....

In the early episodes she spins and becomes Wonder Woman and still has her clothes in her hand. and puts them away in a near by closet or locker. In the later episodes there is a flash of light and her clothes are just gone!

15. I think he folds them up real small and hides them in a secret
pocket on his cape.

Just a guess.
