Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 11:43 PM by CanuckAmok
I have no idea what it is.

Maybe because he's turned a series of boring dinner-table monologues into a series of lucrative spoken-word tours.

Maybe it's because he uses the term "spoken-word".

Maybe it's because he does cameo appearances in stupid movies like Johny Mnemonic and The Chase, and he's alays playing (hang on to your irony straps) a cop or some other conventional icon of authority. "Oh, hey, that cop... isn't that the guy from Black Flag?! Oh, I get it, he's beeing ironic!"

Maybe it's because his Rollins Band albums lack the energy of Black Flag, and are usually recorded with a bass that's missing at least one string.

Maybe it's because there are nine of them.

Maybe it's not so much that he was awarded a Grammy for an album deriding hipocricy, but that he accepted it.

Maybe it's because his neck is so thick and short.

Maybe it's because he was voted Details Magazine's "Man of the Year" for 1994. Particularly when Iggy Pop, who has never won, was totally eligable and far, far more qualified.

I really don't know.

I mean, I know why I feel that way about Dakota Fanning, but this HenryHate(tm) stumps me.

13. Maybe not unreasonable...
probably not the best choice of word...

So, I love rat pack music...

Country, real down home country like Naci Griffith and Ryan Addams.. not Nashville Pop...

Classical stuff, not the heavy Wagner type....

But the airy stuff, the light stuff like Debussy...

I really think the Sundays were an underatted group....

I still love the Beatles...

Nat King Cole sends me....

I really like the Foo Figthers but think Nirvana was over rated...

7. I sort of like the good things he's done rather than dwelling on the bad
Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 11:52 PM by BigMcLargehuge
Good concert - The End of Silence tour, saw him at Club Babyhead in Providence, RI. Great show. He was extremely cool to talk to. Corrosion of Conformity got me smashed on their tab because they stepped all over me during their set.

Bad concert - Weight tour, saw him at Lupos in Providence, RI. Said up front that he was only playing tracks from that album, which wasn't released until a week later. Theo Van Rock was gone from the band. People put up posters poking fun at "Corporate Henry" that he derided from the stage.

His publishing company is active, and he built it from the ground up. His poetry is usually pretty good too.

I like some of his spoken word stuff. (Jello Biafra coined the term)

He was the only good guest on Dennis Miller's old talk show.

He played Vanilla Ice in Third Base's video for The Gasface.

and I'm not going to be swayed by what Hollywood suggests, nor what Details nor the Grammy's thinks. Black Flag is/was awesome, regardless. His spoken word is very good.

Saw him live when Rollins Band opened for the Beastie Boys. Such a positive evening. One not soon forgotten.

18. I will always respect him, but I really don't care about him anymore.
For his influence on my teen years, he will always have a place in my personal pantheon, but I'm an older person now, and really couldn't be paid to give a shit what he's up to nowadays. He's like some friend from high school that you'll always have a certain respect and love for, but he's changed so much and so have you that it'd be hard to see things in the same light as you did back then.

Rollins meant something to me back when I was 16. Now I see him as just another entertainer who overstayed his welcome, but who's marginally cooler than most entertainers. That's not enough to sustain fandom for me.

Outside a gig in Dallas (at Trees) with the Rollins Band. He was doing his usual calisthenics(sp?) outside the club while I was smoking a cigarette before the show. He was an asshole to everyone that talked to him except for me. He was pretty cool to me for some strange reason.

Anyway, I like the guy's opinions but his "standup" routine on one of the movie channels is just not funny to me.
