Only South Korea and Japan

Is it the tsunami?

I remember watching the most memorable match I've ever seen between Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia last year, yet China, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Thailand, etc. are nowhere to be seen.

What gives?

I know that the qualifiers are grueling but still - there are 5 African teams and NO Southeast Asian teams.

My fear is the tsunami.

Then again - no Ireland either *runs from the room*

who else in the Asia region do you think should have made it? China? Hong Kong? North Korea? they would have trouble beating some of the local JV girls' teams....

3. I don't know the sport too well - that's why I ask
I have seen some great matches on tv and assumed that there would be a better showing of Asian teams.

4. You want the frank answer
None of those countries' national teams are any good. Football isn't such a big sport in those places. In India, for example, everything is all about cricket. Same with Pakistan. As for the oriental countries, I'm not sure what sports they are into, but I'm sure it isn't football.

As you pointed out, if even Ireland (and Scotland for that matter) are unable to qualify, it is not so surprising that China and Thailand didn't manage it either. Only 20-odd nations can get to compete.
