8. Back when I read comic books
Aquaman was married with at least two kids. His wife, Mera, had the power to make hard water--REALLY hard. Like rock solid. It helped in defending herself.

But I haven't read comics in about two decades, so I might not know so much anymore.

3. I think he's an obligatory celibate
For obvious reasons.

His sexual orientation has, so far, not been a critical factor to plot line development, but he does seem to take a shine to some women in his life.

My guess is that he's straight, but not narrow.

Fox, on the other hand, is not gay, but not straight either. I would say warped and in some cases bent.

11. I'm afraid times have just gone
too fast. People forget when comic books were originally created, in the 1920s through 1940s for most of the big heroes.

Back then, no one was gay--at least not in the comic book world.

I don't mind gay characters if that's how they were originally conceived, but the old heroes and heroines were not initially gay.

In some cases, being a superhero prevented many of them from getting married or having relationships in the first place. The reason that their loved ones could be exploited by evil doers went a long way to confirming this. But some were already married, and breaking it to their spouses was often touchy, especially when the loved one couldn't understand how often and far away their heroes would be.

In the 1960s, no one would ever accuse James T. Kirk of being gay, just because he never married. He was essentially "married to his ship" because that was the career choice he made. Yes, he got the "girl" often enough to make sure his sexuality wasn't questioned, but nevertheless, faced with merely the story that he was in his late thirties and didn't have a wife would make some think he was not interested in women. Of course, people fail to remember that on TV, the impossible happened every day--if a hero in a major TV show got married, we knew immediately it was the end of the newly created spouse.

Back in the 1940s, a rich man taking in a ward was not necessarily a signal that the rich man was gay. Back then, with WWII, the Great Depression of ten years earlier, and with more children than ever in orphanages, families and others DID take in children to live with them.

The problem with comic book heroes is that they have to be reinvented every ten or so years. The masses like their heroes to be young, good looking, and free. So every ten or so years, the character regresses back to a new year of birth, a new generation in which to grow, and new stories for the times.

Personally, I would love to see the generation of comic book heroes that I worshipped get a nice, comfortable retirement, get married or get a lifetime partner, and get out of the business. With Superman, especially, the miniature city of Kandor (which I last read was finally enlarged on a world of their own) could yield a hero for the modern times, and become the new superman, or like with some of my other favorites, get killed, and the next one in line could take over, like they did with Flash. But to try to keep the often confusing and totally bewildering history of the original changing every few years to invigorate the characters just makes it look like money talks louder than history.

17. I fail to see how that...
would "destroy another hereo." A number of comic book heros are gay, lesbian, or bi- without the hero being "destroyed."

19. Do not jump me. I do not care about sexual orientation, BUT
I care that in the last few years MANY of our real heros have
been dragged out and flogged, many falsely, with accusations
of homosexuality. Who cares?

21. In the Kingdom Come series DC put out about 10 years ago: (SPOILER AHEAD)
Wonder Woman ends up being pregnant with Superman's baby at the end.

I can't figure how anyone would think he's gay anyway. Fox News just hates the fact that he fights for truth, justice, and the American Way. Fox News' puppeteers sure don't.

22. Fox news is saying that SUPERMAN attracts Gay Men...
Edited on Sun Jun-11-06 06:33 PM by scoey1953
Now you know why Fox News is losing ratings every day. When everything they
report on has to have a right wing political slant on it...than they just end up
offending everyone. I can see it now, Bill O'Reilly is going to pick up on this...
don't let your kids see this movie...they might turn gay. Ann Coulter probably
thinks Superman represents the dream idol of the Liberal left wing...and she would be
the FIRST one with TO PUT KRYPTONITE IN HIS SOUP.

Rush Limbaugh would wonder if Clark Kent were on drugs, and if so, where could
Rush get some? The Whiner, Michael Savage, would duly complain that Since
the creators of Superman were Jewish, then Superman should be a Superjew...and this
country can not have that. After all, isn't Ka EL a Hebrew name??? How could this
country's greatest SUPERHERO not be CHRISTIAN, for god sakes???

John Hannity would complain that SUPERMAN Never got involved in the Vietnam, or
Iraq war during his many years in comic book print. HOW UN AMERICAN is that???

I am sure this could go on forever...

Who happens to be a homosexual. Some want to read into his story line. Although I do have to say this Superman film does look...

Bad.
