Poll question: Motor Oil changers...pick your poison.
What's your motor oil of choice...and why?

3. Ooooh
something else upon which we agree. I won't elaborate on just how sexy I might or might not find that, as there are rules here.

I always opt for the synthetic, for many reasons.

5. Of course.
I love my car. It has high milage. I want it to last a long time. Besides, like pretty much every Saturn starts to do about ten minutes after leaving the lot, it burns a little oil. The synthetic keeps that to a minimum.

2. Oil is oil
Unless it's that fancy new synthetic oil.

I get my oil changed at a place that uses Castrol. The oil doesn't make the difference but the service does. They've pointed out problems with my car that I didn't know about so I could fix them before they became very costly. They even made a minor repair on my car free of charge.

4. Why I like Castrol GTX
One fine day I was putting down the road in my Volkswagen, which was full of Castrol GTX, when the oil light came on. Oh fuck.

I got my ass to the side of the road as quick as I could and checked the oil...there was enough in there. I figured it was the sensor and drove home.

The next day I pulled the sensor to change it and, just on a whim, decided to pull the coil wire and crank the engine. Nothing came out of the sensor hole--which is right above the number-four main bearing. Double fuck.

A Volkswagen oil pump consists of two gears, one connected to the camshaft by means of a little shaft of its own. The little shaft had somehow shortened up and wasn't in its slot in the cam. I used my hydraulic press to shove the shaft just a little way out of the gear. It hooked up, the pump worked again, all was well. I dragged a magnet through the oil I drained out looking for metal shavings. Nothing.

This oil was capable of keeping the engine alive at 0psi oil pressure. I'm impressed.

9. Mobil 1.
With the price of oil rising so drastically I suspect it won't be long before that's the CHEAP option. I'm hoping, anyway! ;)
