What's Your Vote For The FUNNIEST Movie Ever...
A good way to figure it out would be to think of the one movie that always puts you in a good mood no matter how many times you see it. The one movie with jokes, gags and punch-lines that always make you laugh... even though you know it all by heart.

Also... what would your 2nd runner up would be? Honorable mention?

My vote for funniest is... "Life Of Brian".
My 2nd runner up would be... "Young Frankenstein"
Honorable mention: "Airplane".

2. Groundhog Day
which I think is a very deeply spiritual film as well as hysterically funny. I've seen it a half a dozen times. Bill Murray at his very best.

"The Producers" with Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder at the peak of their game.

I also like "Life of Brian" that also touches on many serious ideas; Python could slip that in among all the funny absurdities.

"Monty Python and the Holy Grail" of course.

"A Fish Called Wanda" more from The Minister of Silly Walks, John Cleese, my idol.

3. Annie Hall
I thought it was very funny when I first saw it and a couple times since. But it's been a few years since I last saw it. I wonder whether it holds up.
Someone mentioned Groundhogs Day. That movie got better over time. It really is a spiritual movie.

6. Blazing Saddles
2nd runner up: "Life of Brian"
Honorable mention: "Holy Grail"

2nd runner up and Honorable mention are pretty much interchangable in order.

So if I put them together then perhaps "Caddyshack" would get honorable mention

67. A Fish Called Wanda (and a story)
Best to watch it stoned, too.

Funny thing happened in college. My buddy and I were watching a Fish Called Wanda, stoned out of our faces, and we looked at each other and said "It's too loud." But, of course, since we were both high as kites, neither of us wanted to reach across the coffee table to get the remote and turn the volume down. We both stared at the remote, then at each other, then back at the movie. Suddenly, the green volume bar came on the screen, and the volume started going down, down down, until it was at a reasonable level. What the fuck! we both shouted. And then, fucking cool, man! Needless to say, this fortutitous and magical event perplexed us to no end, even as thwe movie had us cracking up. How the fuck did that happen??? We came up with many, many explanations, most of them involving the force of the universe and some measure of harmony, etc. Yes, it was good shit. Of course, all that had happened was this: When another roommate had taped the film off the same TV two weeks before, he had the TV volume set loud, but halfway through the movie - at the exact same time as we noticed it - he saw that the volume was too high, and so had turned it down. In those days, the VCR captured everything that appeared on the screen, and captured the volume settings too, I guess, because he ended up taping both the green volume measure and registering the volume change on the tape. Of course, we didn't figure this out until we were straight again! Ah, cannabis...
