An aside to those who are Watching the 2005 Doctor Who series
Due to the magic of BitTorrent I'm well into the 2006 season, and I just wanted to let you know that it's just getting better and better. The new doctor (David Tennant) takes a little getting used to- he needs reading glasses- but Rose is still on board, and things are heating up. And that's as close to a spoiler as I'm going to get, other than to say the return of the Cybermen is killer!

An interesting aside: Just a couple days ago I watched the 2005 BBC remake of The Quatermass Experiment (The original live BBC broadcast series was one of the original inspirations for Doctor Who) and suddenly realized one of the doctors was indeed David Tennant- just four days after he began work on this project he found out he'd been cast as the tenth Doctor Who. Very cool stuff here!

1. I really love David Tennant's Doctor.
He may lack some of Eccleston's intensity, but I think I actually like him better. I love the way he dresses and I have the biggest hetero-crush on that fella. He is cute as hell.

And you have just reminded me that I downloaded this week's episode and haven't watched it yet!

Yay!

2. I think we could work wonders if we could get someone to utter...
.. the same six words from "The Christmas Invasion" about Shrub...

3. Love Tennant
When he smiles I just lose it. Never warmed up to Eccleston except "The Parting of the Ways" where he gave a great performance.

But will we see Torchwood? Captain Jack's own show? Oh baby please!

Khash.

4. I just saw "The parting of the ways"
this past friday and I have to say as someone who was never really a Dr Who fan I am very much a fan of this new Series. But I'm also worried about the change in Doctor. CE was excellent.

5. Just you wait.
Tennant is great. And the writing in the next season is much more consistent.

You'll LOVE it.

6. Nothing but plusses, I agree.
I never warmed up to CE either. Mostly because he's on record saying he did the stories as scripted. That's a first for a WHO actor, and it's sickening. Job by numbers.

Never mind the stories are steeped in a little too much soap opera for my liking or that the sci-fi element almost seems spat upon, in favor of dues ex machina and "magical technology" moments. This isn't sci-fi at all.

Worst of all, Rose gets to continually talk to mommy on the phone all the time. :puke: This show is Buffy on dope.

Of course, there's little of intellectual depth either. It's not interactive or engaging, it's telling a story. One that's really underwhelming.

Never mind the resolution to the "bad wolf" sightings, which invalidates about 80% of them, due to too much plot exposition for once.

Now despite it all, "The End of the World", "The Unquiet Dead", "Dalek", "Boom Town", "Bad Wolf", and most of "The Parting of the Ways" can be rewatched without vomiting.

Tennant's era is far better. Tennant is clearly having fun in the role, and therefore his expressions come across much more naturally. The soap level is a bit down. Rose is more of a snot these days. We get Mickey in a better light (and who is so improved, many people I know of prefer him to Rose! Understandable...) The stories try to be more creative, and more in the feel of Classic Who. Tennant's glasses. Very laudable stuff. The storylines are still underwhelming, with copouts and easy answers to get around plot conveniences like suspense, but it's all good. (I just wish the sonic screwdriver would burn out from excessive use, however.)
