Poll question: Masters of Classic Rock Radio
What group or performer receives the most airplay in one 24-hour period on any given classic rock radio station?

The Eagles and Aerosmith would seem to be obvious choices--they have big catalogs. But typically you'll hear Hotel California and Tequila Sunrise/Dream On and Sweet Emotion, and that's it. That goes for Led Zeppelin and the Beatles, too. So I'm going to go out on a limb and say The Doobie Brothers. China Grove, Long Train Runnin', Rockin' Down The Highway, ad infinitum. Note that this is not necessarily my endorsement of the Doobie Brothers; merely an observation.

And I'm going to disqualify Steppenwolf because "Magic Carpet Ride" is played every hour, on the hour, on every station.

2. AC/DC
but in all fairness, all those groups get a ton of play, but it seems evertime i tune in on the classic rock station, i'm hearing "back in black, you shooke me all nite long, or hells bells"....

3. Aerosmith...
along with "Dream On" and "Sweet Emotion," classic rock stations also often play their insipid version of "Come Together." I mean, come on, this IS a classic rock station. Is it so freaking hard to play a Beatles tune sometimes?

4. Lynard Skynard
Depending on the area of the country, some stations don't play anything else

6. Good point
Regionalism counts. I'm in GA right now, and I do hear a lot of Allman--although my vote for the Doobies still stands. Heard "China Grove" twice this morning.

5. I must say I've never had this problem
Since I discovered classic rock, I've only listened to two stations in my hometown and one in Denver, and I'd say they have a very good catalogue and they play a lot of deep cuts. 103.9 The Eagle in Colorado Springs plays 103 minute commercial-free marathons three times a day, during which they get in some music that isn't exactly on side A, if you know what I mean. Their Denver sister station, 103.5 The Fox plays CD sides all the time. Both stations do two-fer Tuesdays, which has combos which usually feature one really famous song and then one not famous song by the same artist. A good exmple would be "Sunday Bloody Sunday" followed by "One Tree Hill". Then at night is Alice Cooper which if you've ever listened to it is full of wacky shit and some great tunes. Generally, no complaints.

I would say the classic rock radio is one of the best things about living in Colorado Springs. Take that for what you will.
