I just got home from the hospital...
Well, as I spoke of in a previous thread I had a boil in a sensitive spot of my male anatomy. Cut to less than 24 hours after seeing the doctor... when I was admitted to the ER with a high fever and I was apparently "septic", which I assume means something like blood poisoning. Lots of painkillers and IVs full of antibiotics. I was admitted and AlienGirl sat watch over me all night (Thank you my love :loveya: ) while UncleSepp watched the kids and the bird (Thanks UncleSepp  )

As the fever kicked in and I was laying there, rolling in pain, I started seeing butterflies everywhere. I thought I was going to die for sure. Fortunately I didn't. So now I am home today and recovering from the surgery which happened last night at some point. How was everyone else's weekend?

FYTMI: My balls are now swollen to the size of a grapefruit. Thats actually an improvement. When I was admitted last night they were the size of a cantaloupe.

4. Oh no!!! But, I am happy in a way. I was a bit concerned that they
were not acting fast enough. I spent a week in the hospital twice due to a septic infection. Not fun. Feel better. and...get your White Blood Cells checked every now and again. It took 7 years and much agony to finally be diagnosed immune deficient. It often shows up as infected boils, etc...

6. Although I have frequently
had boils in the past, this is the first that onset so rapidly and became actually infected. Usually my immune system makes a cockroach seem sickly.

Thanks for the good wishes, I appreciate them.

7. Wow, did you have epidydimitis (sp) or something? They actually
had to surgically drain it?

9. I am not sure exactly what it was
but yeah they had to drain it. Actually the doctor cut out a half inch wide circle thats about an inch deep. When I went in on Saturday about it, the doctor I saw then said it was just an impacted hair and I would have to wait 48 hours for it to "squishify" enough to be lanced and drained. When I returned Sunday though (less than 24 hours after I was told to return in 48 hours), I was septic and fevered and the doctor who operated on me said if I had waited another 12 - 24 hours I would have ended up with some weird form of gang green (sp?) and basically, all my junk would have rotted off (and that was best case scenario) and most likely would have died.

14. Yeah, thanks.
I was suprised by the nurses and doctors who at several points when I caught a glance at them when they thought I wasn't looking had grimaces on their faces.

12. That should be a warning to everyone
Any kind of boil if messed with can actually pop inside you and get into your blood stream and poison you. Treat them medically.

Glad you are OK

13. I'm glad you listened to your body instead of the first doctor.
I'm glad you're still with us and still have all your parts! I had a cyst removed a year ago. It never got infected but I went in and wore the little plastic bracelet with a label that said "scrotal excision" on it. And yeah, things go through some changes post-surgery, not lasting changes, well, you know what I'm talking about, clearly.

It sounds like you are surrounded by good people. Get comfortable (are you keeping ice on it? I did. :scared: ) And get some treats and movies and take care of yourself!

I am surrounded by very good people. And animals. :) I am being as comfortable as possible, trying to rest up as I have to go back to work tomorrow. I am not using ice, the doctor told me to use warmth/heat.

34. Yeah, he was nice enough
And so was the ER doc who treated me a few minutes before him. She was a nice doc and very professional. She made the call to bring in the urologist who said we had to operate immediately.

Later, after I was in a hospital bed, the nurses asked me what I thought of the doctor (the urologist that is) and I said I didn't have much chance to form an opinion of him, since I saw him long enough for him to stick a few needles in my *ahem* affected area and use a local on the area, then I got shaved and sliced open, so it was a little hard to make a judgement of him. :o

sadly I will not have as long a rest as I would like, but I will only have to work 3 days and will have a couple days off again.

I am terribly sorry to hear about your brother. This kind of stuff is real nasty. The onset time is so fast though, it's nigh impossible to tell what's about to happen...

43. Glad to hear you're recovering
I had a staph infection in my tibia about 20 years ago. My leg swelled up really bad and talk about painful! It healed thanks to five operations and 2 antibiotic shots every day for two months (pin cushion butt and thighs!)I have a nice big scar and numb spots on my leg and feet to remind me of it.
I'm glad you're doing better, but I can't imagine pain like that in my nads. I get woozy if my undies are two tight!
Get well soon!
