Bruno the bear: 1 - Bavaria: 0; Finnish Hunting Dogs Can't Take Heat

Bruno the brown bear, who has eluded authorities for over a month as eats his way though Alpine livestock, can sleep easy tonight in Bavaria. The five specialized hunting dogs flown in from Finland had to break off their search on Tuesday amid intense summer heat.

Bruno the rampant brown bear can relax for a while after the team of Finnish experts hunting him had to suspend their search on Tuesday because their specially trained dogs couldn't take the hot summer sun.

"It got too hot for the dogs after they had been looking for him for hours," said World Wildlife Fund spokesman Jörn Ehlers.

The hunters had set out at 4:30 in the morning after a fresh sighting in the Austrian Alps. But the sun proved too much for the tough little Karelian dogs and the search was halted at midday.
