I've had this cold all week. Seeing as I've finally managed to steal a day off from work, I saw a perfect chance to get down to the local park, run around a bit, and give my immune system a bit of a boost. I got a soccer ball, started playing around a little bit, and got a bad idea that sounded good at the time.
Let's preface this with one major detail: I'm clumsy. I've been an "athlete" all my life, but I'm clumsy anyway.
I saw this shot the other day in an online video - I'm not sure if it was a World Cup highlight, or maybe one of those insane Ronaldinho videos that are all over the place on YouTube or something - where the player strikes the ball with the outside of his foot, so that the ball swerves in the opposite direction from what you would expect given the foot he hit it with.
You know where this is going: "I bet I can do that."
I'm not quite sure how I managed to kick the ground before I ever got to the ball, but I did it. And, of course, at the awkward angle my foot was already at due to what I was attempting, that hurt. I was able to shake it off to some degree, and stay out there a bit longer, but now that I'm sitting down again, it's starting to get really stiff. It'll probably swell up later, so I've got some ice on it.
But... ow.
