Is it me, or do some people Just. Not. Think?? OMG . . .
In a pretty damned one-sided discussion of gay marriage on another forum -- most of it against us gay Americans -- someone wrote something like "gay people can't even have children naturally" so why should we be able to adopt?

I replied simply, "Of course we can, as long as our reproductive organs work."

Someone else replied (are you sitting down? don't drink anything . . .) "Reproduction takes a male and a female... no amount of legislation will ever change that."

:blankstare:

So is it me? Are these anti-gay people just not thinking? Are their minds so effing closed that they can't consider that there are differences in the world? :eyes:

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."

1. I went and read that whole thread just now...
I don't know how you can stand to argue with that one blowhard. The good news is that there are a few straight people there taking him to task. He ignores everything except what supports his own bigotry, but still... it's encouraging to see others there supporting gay rights. As for him... some people just can't make the effort to get out of their own small minds.

Keep putting the facts out there. Someone will read it and be informed, though it won't be him.

2. "Someone will read it and be informed" -- that's why I keep going.
I've gotten positive feedback too, in that private "karma" thing. But not as much as negative.

:hi:

3. I'm not sure how to respond to this:
"Reproduction takes a male and a female... no amount of legislation will ever change that."

except with a big "DUH"

And maybe "Who asked the legislature to change that anyway?"

I hope that isn't here at DU?

Oh, hell no!

Here's a link to the thread. I think registration is required though. And it makes me so mad . . . maybe it's not worth it for you to view.

7. Hmm if I were an adoptive parent
I'd be pretty pissed off at someone telling me I was my child's "guardian" and not her PARENT. Since when do two people have to be *biological* parents to be parents?

Stupid stupid people.

5. I just got a reply to my response:
reply: I don't think anyone is arguing the fact that two people of the same sex can raise a child together, that is known as "guardianship"... there is already a spot for that on every form I've ever seen...

my response: "Actually, in my friends' case, and the case of every other gay parent I know -- whether biological children or adopted -- it's called parenthood.

"Yes, guardianship is "on every form" but it is not equal to parenthood. This is one of the main reasons we require legal marriage: to protect our children."
