Is there a way to learn the history of a house?

Without interrogating local residents. We looked at houses today in my new community. One of them was obviously haunted and gave both my husband and I bad vibes. The neighbor when he were getting ready to leave told us all about how it had been the first clinic in the area (more like a hospital).
Of the several houses we looked at, we like two, one more than the other. In our first viewing, we didn't get bad vibes. We would prefer to get a house, though, that wasn't haunted or have other negative connections.
I know that many of you don't believe in such things. If so, I'd rather you concentrate on my question rather than make fun of me for being concerned about such things.

For something like that, I'd suggest a local historical society might be your best resource.

My husband took a couple of photos, none of which had an unexplained entity.
On the otherhand, the feel of the house suggested that we weren't alone and the feel was creepy in a few spots. You know how you know that someone is behind you without looking or hearing, sort of like that.

asking about the history of my building and they ended up doing a little article on it. Maybe you can try your local paper.
