Several years ago, in my church bulletin, a wise old rabbi was quoted as saying that when he was young he admired intelligent people, but as a he has grown older he admires kind people more. I wish I'd kept that quote. Something to think about.

18. definitely
I think about it all the time nowadays. Witnessing the lack of compassion in this world is something that never stops bothering me. It blows me away how callous some people are.

7. How long have you got?
There's no measuring device in the world that's capable of accurately gauging people's stupidity these days, I think. Or their lack of compassion. Or their lack of common courtesty. Or their lack of professionalism...this list goes on.

I went to pick up my car this afternoon...I'm standing at the counter and it's not like there are a ton of people waiting...and my car's done. When I walked in, the guy says, "Hey, I just did all your paperwork and was getting ready to call you."

Then the phone starts to ring and, rather than ask someone to hold for the three minutes it would take to take my money and give me my keys...he's looking up parts. He's giving estimates. He's answering more questions than I can even think of.

Took me 30 minutes to pay the man 47.52 and get my keys and I was Already late for work. I was supposed to be here at 4. Called earlier in the afternoon to warn 'em and told 'em it would probably be between 5-5:30.

I didn't get here 'til 6.

An hour of panic-work, trying to get caught up and now my blood's moving and I'm amped up...and caught up.

Energy to burn...

This happened despite our best efforts. That ought to tell you everything you ought to know about the stupidity of the average person these days. And people on another site wondered why I mused aloud about splitting for Canada.

14. To quote George Carlin - there's three kinds of people in this world:
Stupid people. These people are the kind that make you go "Wow, this guy is really fucking stupid!" Hell if you took down names you could probably have 30 or 40 names by the end of the day.

People who are full of shit. These guys are a little harder to spot. "He seems pretty smart... oh wait, he's full of shit!"

People who are just plain fucking nuts.

Ya know who's all three? George Bush. He's stupid, full of shit, and fucking nuts!!!!!

23. Many people act stupidly,
thoughtlessly, ignorantly, etc.

But this doesn't necessarily mean that they're unintelligent.

Stupid acts have many drivers, including culture, human weaknesses, various misleaders, one's peers, and the media (each of the latter being themselves influenced by culture, including some, like "one's peers", that are (typically) strongly influenced by culture). Of course, culture has its own drivers, including (some of) those selfsame misleaders.

Those that eat at Olive Garden or those that chastise them for it?

It's more the latter, I think.
