Have you seen Comedy Central's "Dog Bites Man"? If so, what's
it all about? Give me your opinion if you care to.

I watched it last night for the first time. I really don't know what to think...

1. I find it amusing, mostly for the guy with the last name I can't spell.
The one from "Comedians of Comedy." The rest of it has potential. I'm waiting to see where they go with it.

2. So, it's supposed to be a fake reality show about a fake TV station

in Spokane, Washington?

I laugh at a lot of things, but somehow, that whole show went over my head!

Here's a review that I agree with -- but didn't see the earlier show.

NEWS FAKERS

'ALI G' WANNABE A REAL 'DOG'

June 7, 2006 --
by Linda Stasi

"Dog Bites Man" Wednesday night at 10:30 on Comedy Central

If reality bites, then hybrid reality really bites.

I'm talking about Comedy Central's "Dog Bites Man," a new, really-not-funny mix of reality, sitcom, mockumentary and smug improv. And the whole thing's about as enjoyable as getting stuck in a stalled subway car full of mimes. It's the kind of hipster show where instead of laughing out loud, you're supposed to say, "Now that's funny."

Clue: If you're talking, you ain't laughing.

The format is a mix-up mash of bits right out of "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "The Office" (sexual harassment in the workplace), "The Ali G Show" and "Candid Camera."

In tonight's premiere, we're introduced to the ensemble "news crew" and the workplace, KHBX, a fictitious local news station in Spokane, Wash.

The team consists of producer Tillie (Andrea Savage), on-air talent Kevin (Matt Walsh), toilet-obsessed director Alan (Zach Galifinakis) and assistant Marty (A.D. Miles),

We're told that former secretary Tillie has just returned triumphantly to the station to produce segments for Kevin, her former lover. Hahahaha.

The opener is a mix of scripted dialogue and improv (hard to tell which is which).

It then switches gears and gets "Ali G-ish," calling a real (unsuspecting?) lawyer to lecture on sexual harassment. This gives the actors plenty of opportunity to embarrass the lawyer with lewd and crude remarks about last night's sex romps. Hahahaha.

Then it's off to a Mr. Bodybuilding contest in California, where they attempt to make complete fools of the competitors. They ask one man repeatedly to do curls with heavy weights during Kevin's standup. Of course, Kevin keeps goofing up, forcing the guy to do more reps than is probably even healthy before a real competition - until he wisely grabs smaller weights. Kevin then reports that bodybuilders are bisexuals with shrunken testicles. Hahahaha. The bodybuilder ignores him completely.

Problem with this dog - aside from the fact that it bites - is that they got the formula all wrong. To paraphrase Lincoln: "Candid Camera" loved to fool the little guys, "Ali G" loves to make fools of the big guys, but the Dogs just make fools of the little guy. Now that's not funny.
