Jose Reyes just hit for a cycle in Shea
First cycle this season.

For non-baseball fans, that's a homerun, a triple, a double, and a single, all in the same game, a damn hard feat, and pretty rare to see.

1. Baseball fanatic of zillion years ago here. Ok, he hit a homer
while there were guys on all 3 bases, correct?

2. No, that's a grand slam
This is much more rare:

First time he's up, he hits a home run.
Second time he's up, he hits a double.
Third time he's up, he hits a triple.
Fourth time he's up, he struck out.
Fifth time he's up, he hit a single.

So he hit every type of hit you can hit, all in one game. It's very rare. Grand slams are a dime a dozen in comparison.

3. Amazing. My son knows all the stats but he's off in Austin.
Who else has hit a cycle before.

4. Something that has never been done in San Diego Padre history.
Last week Mike Cameron got the HR, triple and double, but walked on a 3-0 count his last AB. Missed it by a cheesey single!
The Pads have never had a no-hitter in their 38 year history either.
Congrats to Jose Reyes!

5. You know, don't you, that Cameron hit 4 home runs in one game
a few years ago, and came very very close to hitting a 5th one. It was when he was with the Mariners, and they were playing the White Sox in Chicago. Those fans gave him a standing O, which I thought was so cool of them. That's a sign of a true sports fan, I think -- to be able to recognize and acknowledge a great play or whatever, even if it's by a player on the opposing team.

(I miss Mike, BTW. He is such a cool guy!)

11. He's a team player too.
In his last time up he could have swung on that 3-0 pitch to stretch his AB, but took it like you are supposed to do for the team. He also makes great running catches in CF.
Now if he can only start to hit consistently...

13. That was the problem with Cameron when he played for the Mets...
He was a great defensive player but his hitting was streaky as hell, it was either feast or famine with Cameron

17. He was like that with the Mariners, too. In fact, after that 4-homer
game, it seemed he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn for quite awhile. I don't know if that game did a number on his head or what. But defensively? Damn, he's good!

6. Of course, Bily Wagner blows the save in the 9th and the Mets lost
Ugh.

Wagner is good, but he does this from time to time. We need a real closer. This shit donm't fly in the playoffs.

12. That absolutely crushed me
he has 2 outs and can't get the job done? He can't be walking 2 people in the bottom of the ninth like that. Problem is, who is a real closer? Other than Mariano Rivera, I don't really trust any other closer in a big game situation

15. Luckily, the rest of the NL East lost as well
At least, the Phillies did. We had a chance to stretch the lead to 10.5 games, but that Billy Wagner shit just kills. I absolutely cannot watch that guy in the 9th. His control problems are just perilous, and he ruined a pretty feel good home game with his bullshit this time. Jackass.

16. Yeah no harm, no foul...
but I want to make this NL east lead as big as possible because this road trip coming up in Toronto, Boston and New York is going to be a killer.

But Wagner, the guy was throwing 98-99 tonight, just throw friggen strikes and dare the other team to hit the ball!

10. Cool!
The Minnesota Twins have the dubious distinction of having turned two triple plays in one game and still losing the game 1-0.

14. The 9th cycle in Mets history
Last accomplished by Eric Valent of all people a couple of years ago. It's a pretty remarkable achievement. I'm so happy Jose, despite the loss, he seems like such a genuinely nice guy
