Another funny story from SA
The somethingawful.com forums recently had a thread on customer service stories, called "The Customer is Always an Ass". I saw this one story that was way off topic, but I thought it would get a few laughs around here:

<QUOTE>
In 2004 I volunteered for the Fayette County, PA branch of the Kerry-Edwards Democratic Elect These People Because They Suck Less Than The Other People committee. My home county is the second poorest in all of Pennsylvania (or at least it was a few years ago when I checked), and is home to a lot of "Reagan Democrats." Socially conservative, but more concerned with supporting the unions and such. Still, I did a lot of odd jobs for the local dems -- including putting up signs, and working... the phones!

Every weekend leading up to the election, I'd get a list of people to call and ask who they were going to "support" in the 2004 election. It's a little like telemarketing, but most people didn't mind since I was asking their opinion and everyone loves to share it with the magical polling man on the phone. Still, one call stood out among the rest.

Me: "Good evening, Sir, I'm calling on behalf of..."
"I DON'T WANT NO COMPUTERS!"

Took a second to recover from that outburst.

Me: "Sir, I'm not calling to sell you anything, I just wanted to ask you about the upcoming election."
"Yup, ok."
Me; "Sir, I'm calling on behalf of the Kerry/Edwards blah blah democratic team and blah blah can we count on your support this November?"
"What?! John Kerry? Hell, yes you have my support. I hate George Bush. Why, I'd vote for a nigger before I'd vote for George Bush."

...

...

As you can imagine, I immediatly got on the phone with John Kerry and said "Sir, have I got the slogan for you!"
