But, it is one of those things women have to do every year. I complain, but I know the discomfort is worth it.

3. Mine have always hurt.
With 20 pounds of pressure, they really squish 'em. And I hurt for several days after. It feels like some muscles have been pulled for a few days. But, I wouldn't forgo having it done. I know how important it is.

14. My mom treats herself to lunch afterwards
she's incredibly cheap, and rarely goes out to lunch, but saves that for an after-exam treat

I always go after work, and treat myself to a drink!

17. My dear caty.....
I know you're having it right now....

And you're correct...it is sooo important.....

I am sorry that your exams really hurt......

Perhaps as you get older, you will have less pain.......

I know that has been true for me, anyhow...

19. It sucks that they hurt for you.

I know it is more uncomfortable for some women than others, but I don't think the discomfort is supposed to last for several days. Do you make sure to schedule the mammograms always right after your period? If so, have you told your doctor about this effect?

Can you take some pre-emptive aspirin or something?

20. For me the discomfort is emotional only.
What is dignified about having one's breast flattened like a pancake between metal and plastic? I ask you, who thinks this stuff up?

On the other hand, read a description of Fanny Burney's mastectomy in the 18th century'

and be glad these tests are available & covered by insurance! (hint: no anaesthetic)
