Has anyone bought a cell phone off of ebay?
I lost my cell phone a few weeks ago and have put off buying a new phone because we didn't have insurance and full price cell phones at Cingular start at $100. My sister suggested looking at ebay and I've found some reasonably priced phones, but the catch is they don't come with a SIM card and you have to download some of the features that normally come with the type of phone I'm looking for. Has anyone else had this experience? Can you buy a SIM card? Thanks for any of the advice my fellow DU'ers wish to share.

1. I have but
I already had a SIM card to transfer. If you have to buy a new one from your carrier get the price first, you may be better off just getting a new phone. Also if you can get the ESN# and verify that the phone is not stolen and free to transfer to your account, you'll save yourself a lot of headache.

3. I have - no SIM card to worry about.
I've had it for about 2 years now and quite happy. I had no problems activating phone with my service provider.

4. Did you have to download any programs from your provider?
Like internet access, IM's, etc.?

5. Nope. It had all of the software it needed for text and web access.
But, this was 2 years ago and the technology has changed a lot since then,
