Should I get acupuncture?
I have a situation with my left shoulder (impingement on the rotator cuff) and elbow (golfer's elbow). I have been to the orthopedist, there's no tear in the rotator cuff, so I went for physical therapy, two regimens, lasting several months. I did everything I was told to do.

I am better but still in pain and have limited range of motion. It has been 9 months since my injury (from lifting weights over my head). This is basically tendonitis, according to the doc.

My question is: will acupuncture do anything for my condition? Or should I try a chiropractor?

2. Acupuncture for tendinitis worked wonders for me
just make sure you get someone who knows what they're doing. I don't know how well acupuncturists are regulated in your state; you can contact the licensing board (if there is one) for recommendations.

3. Did you have to keep going for treatments? My insurance won't
cover it and the initial work up is $145, with each follow up treatment at $80. That's a lot of money.

covered by the Canadian system - as physiotherapy.

Wow - that's expensive! Even the TCM's (traditional Chinese doctors) here in private practice don't cost that much!

Yes - I can't remember how many treatments, it was about 10 years ago when I broke my wrist - it was probably about a dozen treatments in all.

Do any physiotherapists in your area do acupuncture? Perhaps the insurance would be more inclined to cover it if it was under the blanket of physio, but in reality they did acupuncture?

edit: at the time, I was charged $5 for the needles, but now I'm not. (for a different condition, same province, different city) Go figure.

:P

Sorry - I have no input of any value to offer to this thread.

7. Acupuncture is known to be good at pain relief
As for insurance coverage, it may depend on how you got to the acupuncturist. Some states require coverage for acupuncture, if you were referred there by the terms of your medical insurance.
I've used it for migraines. It works.
