Poll question: Noam Chomsky v. Howard Zinn cage match!!!
Which of these two titans of dissent would win in clash of passive-resistance to each other! Or, you can vote for who you like reading/listening to best.
I love Howard Zinn. Doesn't he teach at your school? Do you get to see him around and take his classes? I got to hear him lecture and met him once and it was a great experience.
If I lived in Boston I would go to BU and stalk him...by which I mean go to some of his lectures. Just out of cuirousity, is there a Boston Optometry school too?
What a bunch of contrived pretentious bullshit that is. No George, it doesn't make you down home and normal just because you go to a baseball diamond and interview a black player. Jackass.
Just because Chomsky likes to use big words doesn't make his arguments any more sound that Zinn's. A People's History of the United States changed how people view the world and how history is written. Linguistics...yeah there's a field people really care about! :eyes:
but the theory of universal grammar is a far more significant contribution than a library full of books like Zinn's. People care more about poetry than physics, too; Newton and Einstein were/are still more important than Shakespeare and Schiller. Chomsky's work on grammar has had far-reaching uses in the fields of computer science and bioinformatics; his work has led to changes the way we view the workings of human cognition and innate language ability. Just because YOU don't care about it doesn't mean it's not more important, in the great scheme of things.
