Coming To A Fast Food Restaurant Near You - Octopus Dumplings
<snip>

TOKYO -- How about some octopus dumplings to go?

Morio Sase hopes to make the dumplings as American as a burger and fries. His company is bringing traditional Japanese fast food to the U.S.

The first of the Gindaco chain is to open in Los Angeles next year. Sase said they're shooting for 20 California outlets by 2010.

An octopus dumpling may never replace a Big Mac, but Sase says it's a delicious, healthy and warm snack.

1. I'd eat an octopus dumpling before a big mac.
Octopus is pretty good. I don't know if I'd eat it from a fast food place though.

2. Yup
The fast food version is more batter than octopus.

It's not bad, but I prefer my octopus in the little cans with the garlic sauce.

Part of the deal, I think, is Japan's consciousness (obsession?) of being an island nation and depending on the ocean for the rudiments of survival-- for example, consider the whaling issue.

3. Interesting, might have to give it a try
I had dried octopus years ago, rather sweet, the texture of a fruit roll up. Rather enjoyed it, so I'll give this a try if it shows up around here.

7. These are much more delic than they sound!

There are takoyaki stands all over Japan (particularly in Osaka), and these treats are fantastic......especially so after a night of drinking.
