Does anyone think Carlos Mencia is funny?
I just heard a brief portion of Mencia's Comedy Central show tonight. His whole schtick seems to be ham handed racist BS. It isn't even creative. I have read that many comics despise him because he has a long history of stealing other's work.

He is not funny.

I wouldn't exactly call him racist, though. He is basically doing what Sarah Silverman does, only, ya know, minus the creativity and killer delivery.

37. His mother is Mexican and his father Honduran
Carlos Mencia was born on October 22nd 1967 in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. His mother, Magdelena Mencia, from Mexico & his father, Roberto Holness, from Honduras came to America when Carlos was about 3-7 months old and decided to give Carlos to his aunt and uncle Consuelo and Pablo Mencia who lived next door to raise as their own because they weren't able to have children of their own plus his birth-parents small house was so packed already because his mother had so many children... They renamed him Carlos. Carlos grew up most of his life in the Maravilla Projects of East L.A.. Because of his exceptional school grades he had the chance to be skipped up to 10th Grade after the 6th Grade, but for fear of the older kids turning him on to the gang culture and thug life that dominated East Los Angeles he was sent to live in Seiko, Honduras between the ages 12 & 15. Carlos says he was a good kid, and managed to stay out of any serious trouble with the help of his family. Being the 17th of 18 children, he always found family to be of the "utmost importance". After returning back to East L.A. he graduated high school and attended Cal State L.A. where he majored in electronic engineering.

39. LOVE Ron.
He is really cool...except in the last special he basically says he is in favor of the death penalty; but he's talking about Mussaoui (sp? sorry) and even though I don't agree, I see that as a function of his soft heart vs. him being an asshole; if you understand what I mean. I think he's pretty classy, actually.

As for the death penalty thing, every comedian is going to say something you think is totally wrong. The problem is when everything is totally wrong, like with Foxworthy.

I like him on the comedy central show. I saw one of his shows on tv and he swore so much it detracted from his act, and I can take alot of swearing. I don't like his preachy bit at the end where he gets on people for being too 'politically correct' or whatever. But overall he never fails to crack me up.

22. Did you see the one about his Dad and bushitler?
He is Honduran and apparently bushtiler mispronounced something. The Dad supposedly remarked in his this Honduran accent..."ewww I don't think that's how you supposed to say that." He (Mencia was the first I saw to put on the bushitler finger shot and say "that's our moral president." So yeah I like him.

Then again, he would have never gotten his show had Chapelle not taken his little time off.

He is definitely not a decent replacement.

I thought his living the life of a West Hollywood gay man for one day was both funny and hatefree. Then again, I found his Confucious Carlos to be frickin' lame ass gutter humor.

Yes, a quick joke about the differences that make us unique show a willingness to laugh at ourselves...most comics do it. Dwelling on those differences makes you a worse person who cannot accept people as individuals.

I may be a lefty but I have no use for political correctness...I still have no use for those who dwell on our different steriotypes as a source of humor.

20. In a culture like ours...
He is a necessary counterbalance to those who take PC waaaay too far.

We need him just we we need ultra right-wing nuts and ultra left-wing nuts. It's the dynamic tension between the extremes that keeps our culture so awake and alive. Domination by either side always leads to stagnation or tyranny, or both.

If everyone thinks just like me I have nothing to learn from anybody.

26. He's as bad as Colin Quinn. And not bad, as in good.
Bad as in - Quick get the remote!

Carlos "Ned" Mencia is a racist freeper fuck. He advocates AGAINST Mexicans. I personally heard him vilify democrats on the radio, and mock his liberal father for being a Democrat. He's against having pride in Mexican heritage.

The context of his vile "humor" is racism and freeperism. He is not Dave Chappelle. He is not even Dennis Miller.

He's just the Mexican-wannabe Colin Quinn.

32. He's from Honduras
So, it's easy for him to beat up on Mexicans in his routine, but Mexicans I work with don't think he's very funny.

His biggest complaint is against political correctness, but I don't think his humor will win over many people.

Calling Mexicans "beaners" all the time gets old after the first 5 minutes.
He either has to come up with better jokes, or he will fade out of the picture.

He's outrageous, to be sure - the first time I saw him, I turned him off because I don't want to hear that crap.
But, then, when I saw him again, I decided to sit and listen to see if he had anything to say that was funny.

There are other ways to be funny, but Mencia just seems to want to offend by pointing out differences rather than making fun of what we have in common.

Yes, we have differences between the races, but it is funnier to point out our commonalities.

He needs to study Richard Pryor more to learn more about empathy, too.

Richard Pryor was the funniest man in the world, as far as I am concerned.

If i watched him with my nieces, id feel embarrassed..as they are half irish, half mexican..they just look like typical white girls....

its funny, cause they can be hanging out, as teens, and get the REAL American opinion in Texas, on how folks feel about things..they confide in their aunt(me), and tell me all KINDS of stuff on asshole attitudes prevalent in Texas...its amazing that because they dont 'look' the part, they can get an idea how many jerks are out there,...

He sure ain't PC, but he is a little crude at it sometimes. So he offends some. Is he the first comic to do that and why is that so bad anyway?

(If you hate him, try on Lisa Lampanelli...)
