Remember when the most famous Gore was anathema to progressives?
JELLO BIAFRA on “THE OPRAH WINFREY SHOW” (198?)

I’m not sure which of the two Biafra vs. Tipper Gore appearances this audio is from, but in any case, it’s a nice little historical document to have. This excerpt is a sparring match between Biafra, who at the time was embroiled in an obscenity trial regarding H.R. Giger artwork included as an insert with the DK album “Frankenchrist”, and Gore, who was one of the heads of the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC), an organization founded by several senators’ wives in the ’80s to combat what they saw as “alarming trends” in popular music.

2. I do remember it...
I was working in a record store at the time. CDs were too new to be on the shelves...we were trying to get rid of the last 8-tracks.

I remember that there were some "alarming trends" in pop music at the time; and there was no rating system to warn parents that certain albums might not be appropriate for children to listen to. 25 years later, the rating system that is in place is still inadequate, in my opinion.

I'm not pro-censorship; I just don't want my 7 year old listening to music that features sex, violence, and profanity in order to make the album sell.

3. That is my first memory of the Gores - Tipper vs. Frank Zappa
Yet, I think I read that she and Gail Zappa became fast friends.
