Serious post in the Lounge - your thoughts on the paranormal.

So, taking for example a hypothetical world with NO paranormal activity (in the sense of ghosts, poltergueists, divine intervention/manisfestation, faeries, and the like)

Would you expect the same amount of inexplicable ghost stories, or more, or less than how many we get now?

I have no doubt that many perceptions of the 'paranormal' are psychological.

On the otherhand, it is possible that without any genuine 'paranormal' the basic ideas wouldn't be present within people's minds to be created by folk's subconsiousnesses.

In that I don't believe in paranormal activity. All of that makes for great entertainment IMO, but nothing more.

Would you expect the same amount of inexplicable ghost stories, or more, or less than how many we get now?

Say, for example, humans colonized another planet and the only people who went were those who did not believe in the paranormal. I don't think there would be any ghost stories floating about no matter how many "odd" events occurred. The people would be looking for rational/scientific explanations for said events rather than chalking them up to paranormal manifestations.

I can't say for certain. I've never seen/heard/sensed anything paranormal.

On the other hand, no one can say for certain that they don't exist either.
