Man Arrested For DUI For Riding Lawnmower Drunk (Found Passed Out)
<snip>

ST. CLOUD, Minn. — A St. Cloud man has been arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated — on a riding lawnmower.

St. Cloud Police said they got a call just before 11 p.m. Tuesday of a severely intoxicated man driving a riding lawnmower through several neighbors' yards, and up and down the street.

Police said they found him passed out on his lawnmower in a neighbor's driveway.

The 24-year-old registered a blood alcohol level of 0.23 percent, nearly triple the legal limit of 0.08, police said.

He's being held on second-degree DWI charges, and police seized his lawnmower due to prior DWI convictions.

1. I know somebody who got a DUI on a bicycle
He's the type of person that would get one too. Hard luck seemed to follow him around like a dark cloud.

2. Is it just me

or does the charge seem just a bit extreme considering teh circumstances?

edit: the reason just hit me. One of you lawyers can comment if you feel teh need.

The prosecutor is holding him on, and presisng the higher charge, in the hopes of getting an easy plea deal.

4. The guy I mentioned above...
...actually had the cops drop his bike off at his house before taking him to jail. Beats getting an impound fee for a bike

5. Cycling drunk is legal in my state
It's the only part of the motor vehicle code that doesn't apply to bikes. I saved lots of cab fare doing that and then lost it all one night that concluded with an ambulance ride I don't remember. Fortunately there were no permanent or serious injuries

10. Someone might as well drive their car, then
Since riding a bike to avoid driving drunk doesn't seem to work, might as well just drive. They'd get home sooner, and less likely to get caught, unless they had an accident.

15. unless of course they had a conscience
When the penalty for driving and cycling was the same in my state I always cycled, because I realized that it would be highly unlikely that I would hurt someone else.

6. Well, it depends on whether or not he was driving on a public road.
If he wasn't, then disorderly conduct, vandalism, disturbing the peace, public intoxication, and probably some other charges could be applied... It could have been worse.

Man Arrested For Driving Lawnmower While Drunk

May 8, 2006 05:53 AM EDT

A northern Ohio man is accused of operating a lawnmower while drunk.

Dondi Bowles of Vermilion was arrested Friday night as he drove the mower on a sidewalk. Police say he drove the mower to a store about a mile from his home and was arrested on his way back.

The lawn mower was towed.

Police say a breath test showed that Bowles' blood alcohol level was point-one-four-four percent, which is over the legal limit of point-zero-eight percent.

Police say it was Bowels' third drunken-driving-related arrest in six months.
