Anyone here ever smoke Opium?

Not opiumated marijuana, but straight up opuim...

I have - in Thailand when I lived there.

It's transcendal bliss...imagine a good mood, a safe controlled feeling and a smile that lasts for hours...a lot like the first part of an orgasm, but sustained and all encompassing. As if all is right with the world and nothing, no matter how painful, could rob you of this feeling.

Yes, I can see why this stuff is addictive.

ON EDIT: and did I mention the stuff smells REALLY good too?

1. Opiates + me = ick.
I don't react well to them -- well, at least not to the ones I've been prescribed.

So, I've not bothered with recreational ones.

I always thought chasing the dragon meant shooting heroin...but perhaps I've listened to too much Steely Dan.

Yes...I don't even think the "high" itself was as good as the feeling you get all day of general bliss.

It's a good thing you can't get that stuff easily here - in Thailand it was easier to find than ice cream. And in the Northeast and Northern parts it was socially acceptable (more or less.)

5. I'm thankful a lot of good drugs have gone away
Back in the day when acid was clean and cheap, not the overpriced strychnine laced shit you get now, damn, did I have fun. But alas, that all changed during the mid eighties, and probably a good thing too, otherwise I still might be "out there"

Now I'm just left with cigarettes and alcohol as my only vices, and slowly but surely cutting out the ciggys. Gotta keep this middle aged body going. But boy howdy, back in the day:evilgrin:

8. Well I'm glad 420 is readily available in CA
Since I consider that stuff to be the safest recreational drug you can take.

I don't really drink much, I never liked the feeling past the first beer....

But I'm glad opium is not readily available. I hear Heroin is even more fun, so I'm glad I never tried it.

However, some day I plan to - just to find out.

10. Yeah...I'd probably try heroin at least once.
IF I knew it'd be hard for me to get it again. All the other addictive drugs I can leave alone (well, except for nicotine), but it's probably a good thing I don't know where to get opiates.

14. Thing that scares me about Heroin is the potential to OD
You never know the strength you're going to get, so I wouldn't buy it off the street.

Also, I could never inject it - so I would have to smoke it.

16. IF I were to do it, I could only smoke it or snort it...
the thought of intentionally injecting myself with something makes me shudder. And I don't think OD is as much a worry if one isn't mainlining; it's a lot easier to monitor the dosage if it's not going straight into your bloodstream.

17. The smackheads I've known would gasp at that...
snorting or smoking is a waste of perfectly good heroin.

At least, that's what I've been told. :shrug:

21. Well, yeah...it doesn't hit you as hard...
and a lot gets metabolised into morphine, but the needle is a quicker route to addiction, too (and some of the smackheads I've known were addicted to the act of shooting up to the point that they'd inject whiskey, which is something that really skeeves me out...definitely don't want to go there).

there are few sensations that can compete with that of a good opium nod. Drifting in bliss amidst clouds of purple smoke...and the smell of opium smoke is one of my favourite scents (years since I've smelt it, though).

15. Oh, I'm already way beyond screwed...
let's put it this way. In that original poll you put up for this thread, there's only one thing I hadn't tried. Of everything that remained, there's only one I did just once. Of those that remained from there, there's only one I did a few times. I cut out the rest of them eventually, though, except for two things on your list (OK, OK. sometimes if I'm REALLY drunk, three).

Easily - Opium is actually not just one drug, but several. Codine, Morphine and a bunch of others...

And to boot, buying and planting opium seeds is not a crime. Only harvesting the opium poppy is - which is really easy to do.

late 70's. neighbor's older brother brought it back from turkey (carter era navy). had about an 1/8 ounce

i was glad when it was gone. its was really enjoyable.

Just a little. I've only done it a few times. It's really hard to come across.

But it sure is sweet bliss. I mean, damn. Just damn. We once had a pipe, long ago, that we only smoked opium in. After we ran out of opium we decided never to smoke anything else in it. Whenever I would get frustrated, upset, or start a panic attack, simply the smell alone from the residue would calm me down.
