People! It's people! (pic heavy)
Finished...for the most part. The character models I was working on for the game engine I'm writing, I mean. They move and even have semi-expressive faces, so I think I did pretty damn good. As a pose test, I threw together a small comic-strip style dialogue with some random speech bubbles that seems to be some sort of bizarre commentary on sexual harrasment in the workplace...the poses are the important things.

BTW, uploading all these pictures killed my dialup...damn slow Internets x(

IMO, I think the movement of the guy's arms could use a little work, but that should be a pretty simple fix I might even be able to pull off in the programming.

And, of course, you can change their clothes, eye colors, hair styles, etc. I have versions of them that show some of the variety, but I don't feel like spending hours uploading more pics right now.

Here's a couple of shots showing more of the types of environments and poses they're likely to appear in, rather than against a basic gray background telling bad off-color jokes. The medieval lightsaber looking things are just props I stuck in the renderer so they could have something to hold; the cheesy glow effect will most likely not make it into the final product, though I have to admit I kind of like the look.

Now...I just have to do all the programming. :scared:

NOTE: This is what I've been doing when I should be getting a real job.

5. Why thank you.
I thought so too. There's stuff there that you can't see, too (like feet and teeth before you start thinking perverted; I'm making video games not 3D porn! :P).

I made stuff like this for animation class this year and my friends threatened to kill me saying my models were too good to allow me to live.

I wish I could get paid to do this instead of searching for shit work to do here. :(

10. Yes, I'm quite sure.
That would involve a lot of...moving parts...that I don't want to have to deal with. :D

21. For the most part, I use MAXON Cinema 4D
Though in truth I really use a mixture of that, Bryce (for background textures) and Maya (joint positioning).

I can do animation in any of those programs, although character animation in Bryce just sucks. I'm using the models for characters/poser tests in a game/game engine I'm developing so all set animations (walk, stand, drink a shot of whiskey and fall down, etc.) end up being reduced to array of times and joint positions.

OK, off to look at doggies. :D

25. I would think so too.
Some of Maya and Cinema 4D tools have a definite architecture/drafting bent to them. Making buildings or vehicles is pretty straightforward. Making naturalistic shapes is much harder and the geometry can get really messy at times.

I can whip up a good sci-fi vehicle in a few hours; these characters probably took me a week each.

Modeling real looking hair is a total pain the ass. :o

15. It may be.
I'm still kind of fiddling around with it. It also seems that at some camera angles things look great but at others the arms look too long or the legs look to short.

Technically, they conform almost perfectly to the proportions of a human skeleton (7 heads high, torso as tall as legs, hips as wide as shoulders, etc.) but on a screen, technical realism will occasionally look wrong. It's a weird optical illusion animations occasionally run into.

Assuming I do the programming right, it's someting I can easily fix in there.

19. I do think the guy's arms are perhaps a bit too long.
Though I'm reluctant to mess with the arms because that means realigning the origin points of all the children joints for each arm...which includes the forearm, the hand and three joints in each finger...in other words: pain in the ass. x(

Throughout the process I kept running back and forth to the bathroom mirror to look at my own proportions. :D

Yeah, healthy. Who was your model for the female?

Seriously, dØØd — this is good stuff. I particularly notice the nuances, like their eyes and the shadows on their faces. Excellent job.

24. AHAHAHA!!!
Thanks. :D

I had no model for the female. I simply went from memory of...erm...certain amalgamations of bodily portions of different persons with whom I am acquainted that I...like. :7

The male is obviously based on myself with a more fantasy heroesque musculature. I kept running back and forth to and from the bathroom mirror to check my own proportions. When I finished putting the hair and eyebrows on the head my immediate reaction was "Holy shit, it's me!"

Although the background textures were imported from Bryce 5 and the preliminary joint positioning on the male figure was done in Maya.
