I want to say thanks to Oeditpus Rex
Somewhere along my journey, I learned the importance of paying a compliment in public, while saving criticisms for private. Having said that, I'd like to say a public thank you to Oeditpus Rex. He probably doesn't know it, but he has helped me the last couple of days by doing something rather simple: taking the time to talk to me, share himself, and let me share with him. He was nonjudgmental and interesting - even funny at times. I truly felt I got to know someone, and that someone cared enough to get to know me, and it felt great.

I have posted on a few occasions that I have not had a good year. It really hasn't been. I have lost a lot of confidence that I had collected after earning my Master's. Simply, all my hard work was (for now) for naught. I haven't found work. My book projects appear to be in constant suspension. I spend much of my time alone. But I have pushed onward and hope to pursue a doctorate now. Writing my statement of purpose for my PhD application has been one of the most difficult projects I have undertaken - in a way more difficult than completing my thesis earlier this year. And it is only two pages long. I have been writing uphill - fighting self-doubt while trying to "find myself." But I have managed now to complete a draft today that I am happy with. And I credit the little injection of self-confidence from my chats with Oeditpus.

It is amazing what a tiny bit of reaching out can do. Thank you, Oeditpus! :)

7. That's Nice To Say
I need to write a statement of purpose for a PhD program myself.

Actually two 500 word essays: one on a public policy problem and a solution for it-yeah right! 500 words? I've tried a couple of issues that are local to my community to try to bring the idea home, but I have a lot of trouble just getting the problem described, and my solution is so short on both of these that I feel like it looks cheesy. One is on the lack of psychiatric beds in my community and the danger to the patients and the risk to hospitals in the area of keeping suicidal patients in holding rooms in emergency departments of hospitals because there is too much chaos and confusion in an ED to properly supervise. The solution is to combine resources of the local hospitals that hang themselves out for liability and fund a community crisis center properly staffed.

The other one, is looking at provision of mental health care to children in schools. It is much less refined and I don't have it on my laptop to look at it. I'm much less happy with it.

The statement of purpose is also 500 words long, and that is harder for me. I know what it is I want to do: I want to become a public policy analyst with a specialization in health and mental health care.

The PhD is in Public Policy btw

I'd really like to do it next year. I have to get everything in by February 15, which is a ways away, but it will be here before long.

Good luck with yours. Writing can be a hard business to get into, but I bet you will do it one way or another. Glad Oeditpus was able to help you with your draft.

1969 Pontiac Catalina 4-door. Dark green. Had the beak on the front and the drooping tail lights. We could get 8 people in that car at the drive-in if we all liked each other alot. ;)

35. That was my first one, too
Not the first one I owned — that was a '66 — but the first one that was like, "Okay, you can drive the '65 as long as you don't wreck it."

But it was a Bel Air, not an Impala SS, and it had a stupid 250-inch six-banger... and an AM radio with no pushbuttons. x(

40. I bought mine for $200 out of some guy's backyard
and restored it. It was a lot of fun to do, and fun to drive too.

It was originally white with a red interior, and I made it black on black. The body was stock, right down to the SS caps.

But it had a 327 4bolt main vette engine, a powerglide with a 3200 stall speed converter, and a 4.11 posi out of a chevelle.

It was nice until a drunk driver totalled it...

20. I couldn't let this go by without a comment
Yes, yes, I know I said I was gone....whatever. Shortest break in history (not really, you all do it - so shut up. LoL)

But Oeditpus Rex is one of the few people who have taken the time to check up on me and listen to me and give me advice. He realizes (I hope) how much just a kind word can help someone going through a difficult time. Especially yesterday, when I was so lonely and realized how much I had come to depend on this place for friendship and comfort, he was still there for me. He is a very special person. :loveya:

I'd also like to take the time to thank

my good and dear friend crim son - You are awesome and I love you! :loveya:
GoPsUx of course, because you care and are sweet and loveable (a real man with integrity)
ThomCat for taking the time to leave me comments that brighten my day. You are wonderful
janesez for the advice and support which help tremendously :loveya:
plcdude for remembering me and asking about me and caring
TOhioLiberal for actually giving me an appreciation thread at the exact moment I needed it the most. :loveya:
