and senate....

I kinda agree, although I think it's more than that. Americans are pissed off about Iraq, and even if Rush and Allen died single-handedly fighting Al Queda Enemy Combatants in a parking lot, we still would have won.

1. well, my LTTE on Limbaugh losing the senate was on DU yesterday
However, I don't think Rush lost the House for Republics...

A Toast To Rush
While this may sound unusual, I feel it is important that, as a Democrat, I thank Rush Limbaugh. I feel he was a key in helping the Democrats regain control of the Senate. While I normally ignore Rush’s hate-filled fibs and falsehoods, his ridicule of poor Michael J. Fox certainly helped swing the Missouri senate race to the Democrats. Polling indicated that it swung a good three points our way after Rush pulled his stunt, and Democrat Claire McCaskill ended up winning by about one point. Rush’s mean-spirited mocking created a lot of sympathetic publicity for Michael J. Fox and his cause. It backfired on Limbaugh, partly because of hypocrisy, as Fox had run a similar ad for a Republican candidate that Rush seemingly had no problem with it at that time. So, when I hear Barbara Boxer grilling Alberto Gonzalez, or Bernie Sanders cross-examining Halliburton executives, I will raise a glass to toast Rush.

3. 50 state strategy and corruption
Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 02:50 PM by underpants
Yes Rahm and Chuck deserve some credit for being open to "different" candidates (not really different but to the MSM they didn't fit the stereotype the right tells them to promote) but Dean took the message to everyone. If nothing else some people found out that there are real live Democrats in their neighborhoods and saw that we don't eat babies for lunch.

The corruption thing is funny. It was covered as little as it possibly could have been (only the indictments and sentencing got any coverage) by the MSM but it still permeated across the board.

Your friend is unwilling to accept that the Dems WON and that the Repubs weren't completely in control (that must be a real head blower).

The Dems won and they won in a way no one has ever won before. In '94 the Republicans had a 48 seat switch this time it was 32 but this time there should have been 98% re-electability of the incumbent or at least of the incumbent's party (due to computerized gerrymandering) THAT makes the Dem win all that more impressive.

Taverner-I am curious. Has your friend said anything about how "graciously" the Republicans stepped down? That seems to be the catchphrase in our local LTTE page.

5. Surprisingly no
Its funny, mostly when we talk politics we talk strategy - since on issues we almost disagree 100% (the only one we agree on is guns, and I'm probably more anti-gun law than him!)

4. Your friend has a very valid point, at least for the senate
Allen should have easily won that race and even Jim Talent should have been competative. Instead Allen shot himself in the foot with the racial slurs and rabid, agressive staff plus Limbaugh brought to light the horrors of Parkison when he mocked Michael J. Fox.

6. They were certainly instrumental for us...
...but it's much more than that. The country as a whole is pissed off, and rightly so.

But they certainly helped in the House.
