I know it's only about 100 dollars, but it's just frickin' cool to use money with "10,000" written on it.

Even just buying something that cost "1400" is kinda fun. "Yep, I spent 3800 on supper at a restaurant last night!"

It's fun to say.

I've never been to Turkey or Italy, but I imagine the fun in those countries must be even greater! "Yep, I spent 18 million on lunch yesterday!"

Then you call up your friend in Britain and ask them what they spent for their lunch, and all they can say is "6".

4. The downside of Japan
Space. There is none. I once saw an alley that was about 1' wide and someone had set up a sales booth in it. Have you seen the garbage trucks over there? They are smaller than our compact cars. I mean they are taking their garbage and dumping it into the ocean in order to build more land.

I loved my visit to Japan, and I found the dietary side heavenly.

14. Blech
I got hold of some street vendor eel kabob or something in Kamakura and I swear it tasted like snot flavored bubble gum. No matter how much I chewed the damn thing it would not break down. Blech.

17. These were great, but the 'prep' would gross you out.
It was a sidewalk stand in Narita.

Washtub of squirming, live eels.
An old guy would grab one behind the head, flip it up onto a cutting board, and spike it down behind the head with an icepick.
Then, with an AMAZINGLY sharp knife, filet each side.
Unspike it and throw throw the still wiggling 'spine'(?) and attached head into the 'garbage' tub.
Whoa.

20. Eel is crumbly, not chewy
Are you sure you didn't get chicken guts?

I'm not making this up. Teriyaki chicken guts on a stick are sold from street stands under the name of "motsu."

10. That used to be fun in Italy too. Then they went "Euro."
Euros took the fun out of currency. I remember that the 50 Franc in France note had the Little Prince on it. It was beautiful. I still have some of them.

11. Another Negative about Japan....
Edited on Wed Dec-06-06 05:49 PM by ALiberalSailor
...Walking into what appears to be an absolutely slamming club in Roppongi, Yokohama, or Yokosuka, and hearing the "hostess"
at the door say, "Oh, sorry. Japanese Only." That has happened to me at least once every time I've
been to Japan.
