Thing on a cat's nose -- UPDATE (if you're REALLY easily squeamed, don't look)
Edited on Fri Dec-08-06 11:39 PM by bertha katzenengel
Thanks to all who calmed me with their replies to this thread.

The thing -- abscess, whatever -- is gone. And now we see the reason it was there. This shows a nasty scratch, but from this angle -- well, let's just say you don't want to see it from a better angle. It's deep.

Here's what it looked like (still) last night:

Now I just hope it'll heal without getting infected. He's going to have an awesome scar, though. Like his torn ear, this will just add to his charismatic good looks.

Isn't this a handsome cat? I'm so lucky he wandered in.

(this injury happened three years ago . . . he still shakes that paw)

1. That didn't make me squeamish at all
I'm very glad it was nothing serious. You seemed very worried the other night.

3. I was! I come by Worry honestly, though. It's in the genes.
Thanks, Brad.

We're taking our Richard to the vet tomorrow. Him, I'm scared about. He's very sick.

7. You definately don't want to see what happened to our cat
Koko a few years ago. He was a long haired Siamese mongrel. Well he had a sore on his back side for a while that was minor and would heal on it's own.

Well one day my sister let him out and he was missing for three days. Then one evening he came back meowing incessantly. My sister picked him up exclaiming "You came back Koko!!" It was then that I noticed something weird about him. He had a twig attached to his tail so I went up to take it off, then I yelled "His tail is falling off!!" Sure enough his tail had some had detached and there was this huge gap, bone exposed and all. So we took him to the vet. The vet checked the neuromuscular response of the tail and there was none, the cat didn't feel anything in his tail. The vet said it could be repairable but because of the fact that there is no neural activity in the tail there would be bowel problems. So my mom said that she would go home and think about it.

Well the next morning she had called the vet and told him to put him to sleep. It wasn't worth the money and time to keep a pet alive if it wasn't going to have a good quality of life. It was the hardest thing my mom had to do when it came to dealing with the health of a pet. We were all pretty sad about it and we cried all day.

I am glad that your cat is safe and healthy.

9. It happened about seven years ago...
I am sure I will see him in Gine (The Other Side) when I pass over. I know that the pets that I have had in the past will all be there. I just had a thought go through my head that Koko is around me right now. I can't see or hear him but I bet his presence is here.

10. aw. poor Daddy with a sore shnozz.. it looks like it's
mending. Didn't make me squeamish at all, though I pretty regularly tend to cat owies (esp. our big male Ivan - also a tux) and am used to all manner of abscesses, scratches, torn ears, mouse guts, etc.

Tell Daddy that his scar(s) lend him such character!

14. Maybe the vet will recommend an antibiotic to use?
Or maybe some neosporin or something like that? I remember when I was a kid one of our kitties had a really bad abscess that was removed and we had to put a dropperful of this medicine on it for a bit.

He is a beautiful cat, Bertha.

And, the pics from the party looked like a lot of fun!!!
