Fashion Q: Would this be a good dress for a short, plump chick?

Sorry for the long link.

I'm thinking of picking up this dress for basic formal occasions-- but I'm on the chunky side AND I'm very sort (4'11''). I think this dress would flatter my problem areas, but what does the wise lounge think?

They get really happy when you take them off.

13. white salamander?
I've never heard of that. What are they and what do they symbolize?

I'm probably going to be getting a tiger half-sleeve on my other arm after I marry my SO-- he's my tiger :)

17. wear a shawl?
I had a long sleeved, zip up half-jacket I used to wear with a dress very close to that. It was iridescent blue. Totally drew attention away from the tummy area. :)

28. I know :)
Plus my SO always makes me feel good about how I look-- even if I'm a bit bloated from PMS or if I put on a pound (or a few!).

But I wouldn't mind being 30 pounds lighter, ya know?

7. YES!
From one short plump chick to another, you would look smashing in that baby!
It covers the thighs, which on me need to be covered, if you know what I mean. It draws attention to the chest. Very nice. Do you wear heals? I think this dress is begging for heels. OF course I cannot wear heels, but some people can.

10. I usually don't wear heels, but I think I am going to for this one
I have very flat feet (I jog, I've played softball all my life--I'm not dainty, lol), but I should find a cute pair :)

I think I'm also going to bring a little knit top in case it's too, um, brash-- I'm going to a Mormon wedding, and I have lots of tattoos. If I get some icy stares, I may cover myself up.

Thanks for the tips. This will be the first new article of clothing in over 2 years for me :)

14. A chunky heel would work...
Maybe something feminine with a bow on the top? There's a cute pair at Target.
Good luck shoe shopping!!

21. yes, I concur with YellowRubberDuckie - definitely heels...
2 inch heels are usually pretty do-able, and stay away from those wicked witch pointy toes - they tend to be very uncomfortable. I don't wear heels much anymore, but 2 to 2-1/2 inches don't cause me any discomfort.

I think the dress will be great. B/c of the material, remember to wear a slip so there are no static problems with your hose. If, because of your height, the length comes down too far below your knees, consider getting it hemmed if you have time.

Perhaps a nice shawl to cover your arms in case it's cool (or you want to cover your tattoos). Something with a little color so it's not all black - kick in a colorful necklace or earrings, and maybe color in a shawl. If it's a wedding, and a traditional one, be careful about wearing all black....

23. I totally plan on wearing something with some color
I have lots of bright earings I can wear, and I have some pretty makeup I can wear to add a bit of color.

you can keep it as part of your wardrobe for a long time, I'd think...

Have fun!

9. I think it would work.
It's simple, not fussy, has fairly straight lines. Wear it with high heels, maybe black nylons.

20. It would be OK
Depends on where the length actually sits on you.
Around or just above the knee is a good area for short figures, and that's where it sits in the picture. However, if it's longer on you it might play up your height and also truncate your look which can make you appear even broader.

27. I can do it by hand, but instead of pinning it, I use the tape
Edited on Sat Dec-09-06 11:27 PM by Viva_La_Revolution
especially on lighter fabrics (except sheer, cause it shows thru) it makes an even clean hem line.

for people who don't sew, it can very handy. :)
