Quick! I need some good non-denominational meal blessings!
I forgot that I have the "blessing/announcement" duty this week at lunch, and I need some good non-denominational blessings so I don't have to go with my usual "moment of silence." The audience is 6-8 grade. Thanks!

6. Non-denominational or non-diest?
There's always the old standby "Bless oh lord this food to our use and us to thy faithful service, amen".
Dropping the "in Jesus's name we pray" appendage.

7. Yes.
God's not a problem, but I'm trying to avoid specific denominational identifiers.

10. This is the one me and my sibs used when we were kids:
"God is great
God is good
Let us thank him
For our food
Amen"

Non-denominational, and the "God is great" part might appeal to Muslims.

24. We used that one two, but with the first two lines reversed.
When my parents weren't in the room we used the grace that Redstone posted. ;-)

13. Here's one we use around our family table:
Earth that gives to us this food
Sun that makes it ripe and good
By Earth, by Sun, by God we live
Our loving thanks we do give
Blessings on this meal

14. Let us be thankful with kind and loving hearts for..
The hands that raised this food...
The hands that harvested this food..
The hands that prepared this food...
and the hands that served this food.
May it nourish our bodies to grow just and merciful hearts, and strong minds that will serve our fellow man.

20. Thanks be to our Father (alternatively Mother)
That none shall hunger that none shall thirst.

Amen.

It is especially nice in spanish:

Gracias a nuestro padre (or madre), que nunca tenga hombre y nunca tenga sed.

Amen

Regards!

Laura

21. "Sit down, shut up, and eat." That's pretty nondenominational. Or this:
Edited on Mon Dec-11-06 09:49 PM by Redstone
"Good food, good meat,
Good God, let's eat!"

Redstone
