Anyone seen The Day the Earth Caught Fire?
Thought I'd seen all the old late 50s/early 60s sci-fi I ever needed to see. Wrong. Never watched this one before. Really well acted and scripted movie, kind of in the Twilight Zone "stageplay" kind of way. 1961 I think. Nuclear weapons (theirs and ours) have been detonated, loosed the earth from orbit, and sent us towards the sun....

2. I rented it on DVD
A really handsome widescreen just in case, like me, you have a bunch of movies of this vintage on VHS-from-TV versions.

3. It's an old fave.
As I have a crush on Janet Munro, I do love the parts where London gets all hot and Janet Munro gets all sweaty and has to wear fewer clothes...

But I also like the hard-boiled newsroom atmosphere, the great widescreen photography and the scene when the beatniks go nuts.
