Seen on the back of a gigantic SUV today, above an American flag......

Normally, these jokers don't bother me......

But then I got to thinking.....

What if someone flying a Mexican flag were a citizen here?

What if they were honoring their country of origin?

It made me, yes me, mad......:grr: :grr:

It's fine to feel pride when you look at the flag, or hear the national anthem. But to use it as a way to cloak your racism and bigotry (which is what these people are doing) really pisses me off too, Peggy.

I am always looking for real conchos - do you make/sell/have a line on any?

I am having trouble casting silver right now so I'm taking a class starting Jan 3rd. I have also found a caster in next-door Hermosa Beach so I am making some wax models (in between a million other things) and hope to have my own bracelets in my case by summer.

As for the concho's I have a Zuni made (I purchased it directly from the Zuni Artist Co-Op) BEAUTIFUL 500 petite point Sleeping Beauty Squash Blossom belt. The artist is named Martha (That's all the Co-Op manager could remember) The conch's are hand cast, and the turquoise is well set and very pretty. I will take a better picture of it tomorrow (review the third picture down) and post it. If California Peggy can make it to the Long Beach Antique Fair she can relay her impressions. We list it at $740, but since you are a DU'er hmmm.

and a stone or two, but plain silver is fine. I have a few old ones and a couple I FINALLY found up near Zuni as well, a few years ago. I will try to post a picture.

I had a good "crafts" teacher in high school - he was a silversmith in real life so we had access to REALLY good equipment. I sure liked casting over soldering - I have no skill in that area. I will see if I can get a pic of the kind of concho' I am looking for (a little bigger than buttons, say quarter to half dollar size, with a loop on the back)

Let me know if you want turquoise, coral, onyx what ever and I will incorporate it into the design. I would not be able to start on it till late January at the earliest.

Looking at these I would almost actually call them buttons, the one on the piece of leather I made :blush: back in high school. (Teacher had a punch set for them) I made four, one got lost and the other two are on a bridle. They have more of a flat bar on the back so they will fit on a 3/4 or 1 inch wide strap, unlike the others that just have the small loops. The two at the upper left are the ones I got up at the shop (can't remember the name - on the road down from Gallup...aaa can't remember) anyway I use those for ponytail holders. They are hollow and I really would call them buttons

The two at lower left are old, don't know where they came from (my grandfather) and the odd one at upper right is also pretty old I think - it has a tumbling sun/swastika in the center with doesn't show in the pic. I assume that puts it preWW2 but have no idea of its story.



January or even later is fine by me, I won't have much extra $$ for a while but am interested. I would love to find some like the one I made, but with the shaped part bigger. I think the dies (is that what they are called?) are pretty hard to find, though. Or maybe they could be cast?

It infuriates me when people think that the only way to prove patriotism is to blindly embrace a symbol. Especially when it's pretty obvious that the person doesn't understand the history behind the symbol, and in fact, acts in ways that directly contradict the intent.
