HD TV questions - baseball
Hi everyone,

All of us grown up kids are chipping in to get my old Dad a big, flat screen TV for Christmas. His eyes aren't as good as they used to be, but he had surgery on them so they are not really bad now. He loves baseball.

Any advice? I don't know if I can implement any of it, even if you have it. We are a committee... and you know how that goes. ;)

1. I'm not sure what your question is.

4. Ok. I started watching baseball in HD this past season.
It's amazing. You can see every blade of grass on the field.
And because I'm female, let me add that I could see the players a lot clearer too! :woohoo:

2. I have a Sharp Aquos and I love it
The two things that are AMAZING in HD are nature/travel shows and sports.

One thing to consider though: to really get the best picture, the broadcast has to be in HD too, not just the TV itself. So you'll want to make sure what channels he can get in HD. (I'm a college hoops junkie, and a lot of the games aren't broadcast in HD -- unless it's one of ESPN's featured games. Not sure how MLB does it...)

5. They're thinking of switching from cable to DishTV
which seems to be the right thing to do. I'll see if I can't promote that idea.

Thanks, good point.

The cable company claims to have some sort of HD. But I'll bet you a dollar that DishTV would be better.

6. I've got an HD tee vee
and baseball on it is INCREDIBLE. You can see every blade of grass, every bead of sweat. It's almost like you can taste the infield dirt when a player slides into second.

I only wish more channels broadcast baseball in HD. Right now it's just ESPN and FOX. Some local affiliates might...I believe WGN does but only over-the-air and not via cable, so you pretty much have to live in the Chicago area to get the HD broadcasts. And I don't.

7. There's NOTHING like watching sports in HD
Baseball is probably the best though, it's such a visual game anyway and the picture clarity is stunning. I like flipping back and forth between the HD and non-HD channels and the difference is not only apparent, it will make you wonder how you ever watched sports on a regular TV before.

8. HD is amazing for sports.
Seriously, once you experience it for yourself, you never go back. I've actually gotten in the habit of ONLY watching HD channels (not on purpose, mind you, but I always see what's on those channels first for some reason).

And with HDTV prices dropping, it makes all the sense in the world.
