If you were given the power to remake the US federal government to your specifications...
...what changes would you make?
Some of mine:
--Constitutional amendment to clearly define a right to privacy --Constitutional amendment to enshrine equal recognition for all civil contracts (including marriage) --Constitutional amendment to clearly define who is considered a "person" (i.e., to make sure Corporations are NOT considered "persons") --Getting the Equal Rights Amendment ratified and in full effect --Abolishing the death penalty --Constitutional amendment to tie the minimum wage to inflation and "real" living expenses
- Environmental courts with enforcement powers - ERA amendment that sets equal rights to Everyone rather than just specifying the next group (or kinda like your idea of defining a person) - This would apply to all residents not just citizens - Popular vote for Prez - Senate would not be based on 2 per state but on Bioregions (watersheds and the like) and perhaps other interest groups such as labor -- Along with this goes a ban on lobbing and strick election campaign controls (limits on when it can be conducted and for how long, and how much money is spent)
