I just fell down the stairs. Ow.
Well, not all of them. The stairs are split, three up to a landing, then 10 or so. I was on the landing, going down with a huge pile of laundry and missed one of the last three steps. Twisted my left ankle quite badly, it hurts like a mofo. On the plus side, though, I landed on all the sheets and comforter cover so it was a nice, soft landing!

owie owie owie owie. It's wrapped, and has ice on it, but I had so much to do tonight. Damn.

1. My dear Flaxbee!
I know you have a lot to do.......but you are doing the right thing, by staying off it!

Remember rice

Rest
Ice
Compression
Elevation

Glad the landing was at least soft, sweetie!

4. thank you, CalPeggy -- you're our resident nurse, right?
My mom was a nurse (premature infants) and I haven't called her or told her yet -- I'm sure I'd get the same "rice" prescription from her, too!

Thanks for the thoughts and  -- I appreciate it.

2. Be Careful Flaxbee
owie's are not nice!

sorry you fell

that's scary too to fall down stairs or off something.

It's farther down than it used to be for most of us, and gravity is gaining advantage

:pals:

7. I've Fallen Off My Porch Twice, In The Same Way
locked the door and turned around and went flying off

only 4 steps, but the flight down is scary and seems to take forever!

Luckily nothing but my pride hurt so far with that.

;)

3. Stay off your foot for a few days if you can.
I hurt my ankle a few months ago and it is still a little tender.

5. yup - I sprained my other ankle very very badly
about 7 years ago, and if I'm not careful with how far I hike, etc., it still twinges every once in a while.

thanks for the thoughts... tender ankles instead of happy feet are no fun.

8. I have to wear a sports type wrap on my foot, bought at CVS.
Costs $12, worth every penny.

Take care of that foot.

9. Dang. My family gets sick and tired of me harping on them all the ime about how dangerous
stairs are. I'm constantly yelling "don't screw around on the stairs!"

Maybe after reading your post, they'll believe me.

Hope your ankle heals up soon. Remember, RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevate!

10. my husband was sooooo pissed off at me as I hollered from
the bottom of the stairs for help. In a good way, of course. He was scared I was really hurt (until he saw me plopped in the middle of all the covers and sheets, laughing). I was wearing flip-flops, too, which aren't exactly good sturdy shoes.
Yes, stairs are dangerous and I was just trying to do too much at once. Any different velocity/angle as I fell and I really could have hurt my head on the washing machine, or any number of other pieces of equipment we have in the basement.

You're right to harp on them to be careful. If I am a lesson in safety/caution for them, all the better....my ankle really, really hurts, all I can do is hop around on the other foot and it's going to really cut into what I needed to get done this week. So, definitely, no fooling around on the stairs!!

12. Yes, indeed. Because of my "balance problem" (which is the euphemism we use
to avoid mentioning the Monster in the Closet), they all see that I NEVER go on the stairs without one hand on a railing, but kids do forget.
