Even though Meryl Streep did an excellent job in the role,
does anyone agree that Diane Keaton should have been cast as Miranda in "The Devil Wears Prada," the thinly-veiled caricature (so they say) of Vogue magazine editor Anna Wintour? The physical resemblance between Keaton and Wintour is strong enough that she should have gotten the role. Not to dimish the excellent work that Meryl Streep did, but consider the two photos below. Can you even tell which one is Diane Keaton and which one is Anna Wintour?

1. Diane is on the right....
but I completely agree with you. She'd have been a scream.

2. I see your point, but...
Streep was deadly in that role. I'm not sure Keaton could play a character so cold and hard, as well as Streep.

What really impressed me about Meryl Streep was seeing her in the "Prada" role and also in "A Prairie Home Companion" in the same weekend. She played completely different characters and was totally convincing in each role.

5. they do look similar, and Diane Keaton is an excellent actor, but
I think Meryl Streep was perfect. The scene where Andrea is climbing the stairs at Miranda's residence and just gets pinned to the floor with Meryl's look at her - no one could do the cold but perhaps doubtful Miranda the way Meryl did...

And anyway, Diane's current perky commercials for face cream are irritating the shit out of me. So I infinitely prefer Meryl.
