4. You're most welcome. My wayward daughter found the link for me.
Couldn't find anything by the words last year when I looked. Havocdad had NEVER heard it! Talk about a misspent youth! He missed most of Cheech & Chong.

2. I was thinking about that earlier today.
When I was in junior high Dr. Demto was played on a local radio station on Sunday nights. I heard it then. I was so upset when they pulled that show.

3. Don't remember the first time
But I do remember hearing it in the living room in front of the fireplace on KERR around 1974.

Let's see...

Yeah, it was a really charp chort! Man, it was Candy Apple red, twice pipes, button tuck... ooooo, clean! And it was pulled by reindeers. You know, like reindeers? And Santa Claus would stand up in the sled and hold onto the reins and call out their names, like 'On Donner, on Blitzen, on Chuy, on Tavo! Aye, vato!' And then, the reindeers would fly into the sky and fly across the sky, man!

Well, wait a minute, man. How'd he get the reindeer off the ground, man?

Oh, he gave them some magic dust, man!

Magic dust, man?

Yeah, magic dust! Take some magic dust, give a little bit to the reindeer, a little bit to Santa Claus, a little bit more to Santa Claus, a little bit
more to Santa Claus...

And that got the reindeer off, man?

Got 'em off? Man, they flew around the world!

Now I gotta listen and see how I did. :7

Thanks for this, havocmom. One of my all-time faves and a great, great memory.

5. Ya did good there! What a memory.
Was thinking you might show up when I posted the link. ;) Figured you with your ear for language and, yep, about the right age, prolly got a giggle from Cheech & Chong.

Thought some of the youngsters might enjoy hearing this. Even thought about posting in GD, as they could use a little lightening up over there. Since Tommy Chong somehow became this great threat to America according to John Ashcroft, perhaps the mods would let it stand as evidence to the mindset of the bush/cheney junta... and as an argument that THEY are the ones who are humorless and hate Christmas.

Want a brownie?

6. Far out!
"Eat the brownies, drink the tea..." :hippie:

Yeah, the whole "drug humor" era has all but faded into the mists of memory, thanks to repressives beginning with Reagan. Meanwhile, they were cracking up at the alcoholic antics of Foster Brooks and, before him, Dean Martin. :eyes:

I shudder to think what might've happened if Cheech and Chong hadn't recorded this. It came after their first album, which wasn't doing well because radio stations were afraid to play it. But "Santa Claus and his Old Lady" got some seasonal airplay, and a legend was born.

And I had to put up with years of "Dave's not here!" :banghead:
