A question about tipping for the Holidays.
Three months ago, we bought our first home in a brand new condo building. There are 5 people who rotate shifts in order to supply us with a 24-hour front desk person/security/"doormen(women)". We also have three guys who handle maintenance. Here's my question: since we pay a monthly maintains fee, does the condo board have a responsibility to dole out Holiday tips? I ask because I just returned from getting the mail and saw someone tipping the woman who was working the front desk. Mr. JackBeck and I have been going back and forth the past few weeks trying to decide if we should and how much. Is $10 too cheap? Any suggestions or anyone else find themselves in a similar situation?

1. I wonder
if one of your neighbors who's been there awhile might kindly fill you in on what the tradition is in your building??

3. I held the elevator for the guy who tipped as to pick his brain.
But his conversation with the woman at the front desk didn't seem like it was going to end anytime soon.

And as for any tradition established by the building, this property is brand-spanking new. We've been here for three months and were one of the first people who moved into a unit, which is why we've been wondering what to do.

2. We always left a gift for the Mailman...
...one year when I came home on leave, I brought with me 5 bottles of crazy expensive wine from Spain, and gave him one. He like it a lot, or if he didn't lied well. Anyway, the point is, in those situations I've found little gifts have more punch than just some dollars stuffed in an envelope. Unless of course, you're seriously short on cash. In which case I doubt a bottle of wine would mean much.
