5. Much too large.
That is a very good shot you have there as well. My mother in law, who is visiting, says that it is a red-tailed hawk, but I honestly do not know. Raptors are just so majestic. Thanks for looking.

6. I was wrong,

and just saw it after I posted. That is a red-tailed hawk. I'll ask my BIL (he has a curing station for birds of prey and is a falcon expert) tomorrow, but I'd say your MIL is right:

15. Thank you.
If I were ever reincarnated, I think coming back as a bird of prey would be cool. Although I'd have to cook my meat somehow. ;)

What kind of camera are you using? I have an Olympus, I just need to learn to use it a little better.

16. My equipment is the following:
Canon Digital Rebel XT 8.2 megapixel
Canon EF 50mm F1.8 (Otherwise known as the "fantastic plastic", it is a plastic lens that renders some great shots.)
Canon EF-S 18-55mm kit lens
Canon Macro EF 100mm F2.8 USM
Canon EF 70-200mm F4.0L telephoto
Canon EF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L IS USM telephoto

I will probably end up selling the 70-200mm lens because the last one covers most of its operating area.

Given your forum name, I bet you have a chance to see some raptors yourself. :hi:

22. I see a bald eagle a lot on one of my running routes...I keep thinking I'll
bring a camera but I never remember. I have a Sharp-shinned hawk that hangs out near my bird feeder once a month...but I doubt I could get any photos like yours..thanks for sharing!

21. Excellent raptures?
Are you sure you aren't thinking of a certain copy cat thread? ;)

Thanks for the kind words. I wish I could just do this for a living. I love hunting wildlife with my lens.

23. Beautiful pics. That is my favorite raptor.
The closest I've ever come to one in the wild is about 15 feet. The raptor was perched on a pole and never took off.
