Gift Juxtaposition Thread!
Edited on Mon Dec-25-06 11:50 AM by mdmc
What two interesting gifts did you get?
Hey DU! Did anyone get gifts that are polar opposites or downright contradictory (like a pack of smokes and a stop smoking book)?
This year I got tickets to La Boheme (the Opera) at the Met AND BULLY by Rockstar games...

1. I got Care Bear earrings and a Victoria's Secret gift card.
One of my aunts gave my mom over $100 worth of gift cards to various restaurants and then feeling guilty got her two boxes of Weight Watcher's snacks.

9. not exactly, but I kinda gave the wrong gift....
a friend of my daughter's lived with us for about 6 months, so I made up a xmas stocking for her with all the same stuff I put in my own kids stockings. Good so far, right? Well, I always look for goofy socks, this year I found toe socks for everyone.

"Ummmm, MommaJones? Did you forget that I have webbed feet?"

yes, yes I had forgotten that. sigh.

I remember the first time I came in contact with the word "juxtposition" in high school. Though I haven't read it in years, I can still remember that "juxtaposition is in the second sentence of William Faulkners The Bear - and I think that sentence is about 42 words long.

LOL

25. i am still amazed that i did NOT
laugh in his face...

the whole relationship has disentegrated to the point that all i do is laugh anymore...sad thing is, he thinks i am laughing with him when really i am laughing at him...

i don't who is the biggest loser:
him for his actions
or
me
for continuing to communicate with him on a nominal basis...

let it be known that i did NOT get him anything for christmas
i was planning on it but, by the time the holidays were here the relationship had sunk to the point that i actually thought we had no relationship...so what was the point?

my life is fodder for a standup routine

20. Yep
My older daughter's boyfriend, whom I'd never met until Christmas, gave me a George W. Bushisms, 2007 Calendar. There is a bushism for every day of the year. I love it! And I wholeheartedly approve of my daughter's choice in boyfriends!

My sister, whom I have known my entire life, gave me a Wal-Mart gift card. I've been boycotting Wal-Mart going on three years now. Of course, she doesn't know that. We live on opposite sides of the country and are worlds apart in our political views. I love my sister dearly and was grateful when my younger kids, knowing how I feel about Wal-Mart, received their cards graciously.

Funny, just a few days before visiting my sister, my older daughter and her boyfriend had also received a sizable Wal-mart gift card from one of his family members. We had all laughed about the awkwardness of the situation. Little did I know at the time...

a roll of toilet paper.

Not from the same person.

The tourtiere was given to me by a friend.

Another friend gave me the roll as a gag gift (I also got a Teddy's Orange from her). She thought it hilarious when my aunt gave me, as a housewarming gift a few months ago, some homemade applesauce, a box of laundry detergent and some toilet paper. (she's 79. Not senile, just incredibly practical, I guess).

My gag gift to her were chopsticks and a couple of frozen rice/stir fry dishes. We went out for Chinese one time, and she had the food everywhere on and around her; not much got to her mouth. I figure she needs some practice before we try that again. (mind you, I hadn't laughed that hard in months)
