So, due to the friggin' Patriot Act, I can't renew the registration
for my husband's car. It's a fleet vehicle. The registration has expired, but because he doesn't 'own' it, :eyes: the VA DMV, (the ones who brought you fake IDs for 9/11) won't allow it.

So, I guess we now have to get a Power of Attorney from the fleet company and move Heaven and Earth to renew the car.

I love America.

1. why isn't the fleet company (aka The Legal Owner) doing it?

isn't it their responsibility?

2. I honestly don't know. In the past, the other companies he's used
have sent us a PoA, and the subsequent registration renewal stuff comes to us in the mail.

This time, I didn't even notice it had expired (mainly because I don't make a friggin' habit of crawling around on my knees to check the license plates of the cars in the drive, but I digress)

I tried to renew it online because that service is available and if you print the receipt, you can give it to a cop if you get stopped and you won't get a ticket.

This time, it told me that he wasn't up for renewal for another six months :wtf:

So, I am guessing a trip to the DMV is in order. Which is fine because I haven't registered TeenMidlo's car yet either since I don't have the title.

Oy. Happy New Year to me.

5. Okay. Now that you said that.
I'll tell you the story behind it.

My brother lost his wife in 2003 to cancer 16 months after giving birth to their only child, a little girl. His wife was probably THE most compassionate person I have ever known and she did a ton of work with second harvest and the homeless and hungry in NYC.

This year, for some odd reason, I've really been missing her. Her laugh, her sweet nature and just about everything about her. I was going to donate to a charity of hers and when Skinner announced this, I couldn't resist. We've donated every year in her honor and somehow I feel her compassion and goodness continues.

In fact, at her funeral, my brother had a beautiful spread and when it was over, I heard him talking to the caterers about packing up the leftovers and taking them to wherever it was that she went to volunteer.

Anyway. That's the deal. She was the light and the hope. Not me.

7. well then
that's an incredible story, and you are a wonderful person. What a fitting tribute for your sister-in-law.

You say "She was the light and the hope. Not me." Au contraire, you've picked up the torch and advanced it in her memory.

I am humbled and awed.

15. I want to add my thanks as well.
It is a worthy thing to help feed people, good on you and your family. What a sad loss, but see how her goodness is still around.

No advice on the vehicle, have patience and maybe you will get an actual helpful person at MVD - they do exist. Rare though. Take notes and names - it helps you remember and them be clear. heh heh

4. They have a great cafeteria there though
Seriously, it is worth the time to come over and go the main one on Broad Street. I never spend more than 20 minutes in there.

14. Come on in, all of y'all
I'm about to open a nice bottle of wine for you and I'm only a couple blocks from the DMV cafeteria.
