The economy sucks so much, and the movie industry's numbers are in the toilet. So there's no money for new risky projects.

8. Bet they rip off Ebert's theory

Roger Ebert has long held a theory that Marco too was brainwashed to play a part in the events and that the Janet Leigh's character was his trigger.

It's kind of fun to watch it with that concept in mind but I bet they add it as a twist.

Bad, bad idea to remake this movie.

that same thing came to mind when I first saw the film. I didn't read Ebert's review until later...

I always figured the communists were using Raymond to get rid of his mother because they knew she was a nutjob and the only way they could do it cleanly (she was a senators wife after all) was to a turn the weapon against her and that's what Bennet Marco was for.

Damn... Now I have to watch it again!!!!!!

From early on, I got the impression that we were being signaled not to trust the Janet Leigh character, and that she was part of the conspiracy. But since that was never followed up in later events, I figured it was just my imagination running wild. Even her name seemed fake somehow-- Eugenie aka Rosie. HMMM.

with a remake of "All Quiet on the Western Front"? This has been my Big Film Idea for years now. It's a classic anti-war movie and an excellent book, and you never see any WWI films. Thoughts?

15. The two existing versions are quite good

the original with Lew Ayres is fantastic, albeit a little short. The second version with Richard Thomas is closer to the book but less visceral than the 1930 original.

I try and watch both versions whenever they are on cable.
