So i just watched Pan's Labyrinth - spoilers
Edited on Sat Jun-02-07 06:59 PM by Ava
It was a good movie and the direcion was great along with the acting. It's not a movie I'll watch again just because it's one of those movies that just wouldn't be as good the second time around and also due to the fact that is has some pretty graphic violence and physiologically messed up scenes.

For those who have seen it I ask you this: Do you think that she created her own world within her imagination to escape the one which she lived in? Or do you think that all that she saw really did happen?

3. I really like that movie
I think she created her own world...taking bits and pieces from the various fantasy books she read. The story became darker when her life got darker.

7. because in the beginning she had already been shot but we didn't know that so
i think she was in a coma or just suffering from massive blood loss and she hallucinated it the whole thing, well except for the very end when we see her getting shot.

12. oh, ok
Edited on Sat Jun-02-07 07:37 PM by Ava
see i think she imagined it all in real time as her normal life went along. all of that which happened that was "magical" was imagined and all of that which was realistic and not out of a fairy tale was real. however - seeing as what happened to her mother, you may be right.

8. I loved that movie
the only scene that I won't watch again is where the one guy gets his mouth cut, and then when he sews it up... no thank you.

I think she made it up; children fantasize all the time, and this is a beautiful example of it... though, there is that element of "maybe it IS real" in the film. I don't think it's supposed to be definite one way or the other

10. i liked it - didn't love it thought
but i thought like i said the direction and acting were great.

and yes, i think you are right about the creators leaving a "is it real or not" big question mark at the end.

13. Interview with the writer-director
was on NPR's Fresh Air on the 18th of May. Might answer some of your questions:

14. my question wasn't what really happened
but rather what my fellow du'ers percieved and what conclusions they came to at the end of the movie. ;) :hi:

15. It doesn't really matter
I think you miss the point of the film, if that's the biggest conundrum you are taking away. They are two complete stories about questioning authority and trusting yourself and making the ultimate sacrifice. An American filmmaker would never intertwine fantasy and history like Del Toro did. I think to an American, that would be trivializing the subject, but in Pan's Labyrinth both stories are so poignant and complete. It was quite an experience to watch. I hope to see it again.

silly me! i didn't think it mattered whether it was real or not, but i was curious to see what other's thought of the film's end. how very american of me!

seriously - i was just curious to see what others thought of the ending. i think you missed the point of my post.

16. I was on the fence about real/fantasy until---
she escapes from the locked room at the top of the house, her only possible exit the "chalk door". For me that meant either it was all real, or all fantasy. I prefer to think all real.:)
