1. Weird, I was just going to search for this.
I just bought it and...I hate it. That is all.

2. My hubby is a HUGE Tori fan and he loves the new
album. It is on all the time at our house.

Me - not a huge fan - but I like the album as well.

3. I got it
I put it on my computer last month but I haven't paid much attention, I hear the songs when they come on at random. It's okay, it sounds like Tori but it doesn't get to me like her first albums did. I think I like the Isabel songs most on this one.

My best friend is soooo crazy about her, he's seen her live almost 40 times, he says it'll be 40 shows after this tour. He's flying from San Francisco to Arlington to go with me to her show here. And he's met her a lot, I was with him a couple of times and met her too, but he's such a big fan he cancels me out!

4. I do
It is wonderful - there's a poppier Tori, but she hasn't lost her quirky touch.

5. Alright. A couple of tracks are starting to grow on me.

But overall, this is her weakest effort in my eyes. Which is hard for me 'cause I've been an Ear With Feet since '94. It's also hard for me because the songs contain some of Tori's better lyrics, but...who the fuck came up with the ideas for the instrumental work? Has Mark Hawley totally lost his shit (and his talent)? Did she cop to pressure from Epic to go totally pop? Some of these just don't feel like her, even the part of her that started off, in her words, wanting to be "a rock chick."

Honestly, though, I think I'd rather go listen to "Y Kant Tori Read." And I despise that CD.

Maybe these will sound better live.

9. I disagree completely
I'd put it up with Little Earthquakes if it wasn't for it being a few songs too long. It's her most diverse CD yet, and I can enjoy it even without thinking much about the concept. Concept albums aren't often that way.

10. 'Kay...it was my opinion. How can someone "disagree" with an opinion?
Edited on Wed Jun-06-07 01:49 PM by BlueIris
And yeah, I understand it's a concept album.

11. As I understand it..
disagree just means to see something differently. I'm certainly not the type to say my music opinions are the "right" ones - that's what the music snobs do.

7. I'm listening to it now

So far I keep wanting to adjust the playback to bring the piano/keyboards and vocals more to the front, and push the rest of the band back where they belong.

It's a refreshing change for Tori IMO.

12. I've decided
I don't really like songs 2-6, but the rest of the album is decent. It will probably grow on me as I listen to it more.

I'm listening to The Beekepper now; I like it better than I did the first time I listened to it. Scarlet's Walk is my favorite, and the only one I just really liked from the first listen. Everything else sort of takes time for me to acclimate to

13. Yes, Scarlet's Walk is a little better than The Beekeeper, but..
I've enjoyed most everything she's done - some techno-ish experiments like "She's Your Cocaine" and "Juarez" haven't grown on me.

it's not too shabby.

i haven't followed her since Boys for Pele bored me away.
But this one seems to have some real life to it. Stronger songwriting. Less meandering.
It has more focus than anything she's done since Under the Pink. I think she got a burst of new inspiration. I may buy a copy for myself.
