Lifetime Fitness vs. 24 Hour Fitness
Are there any DU members who have memberships at either Lifetime Fitness or 24 Hour Fitness? Has anyone had a membership with both? Which club do you prefer? I am not really asking for advice I just wanted to talk to some people about the clubs. Although I do not have a membership with either club I am considering joining Lifetime Fitness. At this point I have a membership with a pretty good club, but it does not have a swimming pool and will not be getting one at the location at which I workout so I am thinking about switching to Lifetime. At first I was think about 24 Hour because they had what seemed to be a good deal, but I later began to think it was not that good of a deal. Lifetime Fitness seems to offer more even though the prices are higher. In addition, am I the only person who thinks 24 Hour Fitness misleads consumers in their commericals? With their recent commerical they were advertising that a person could join and only pay $24 a month while getting a fitness package (backpack, towel, waterbottle, and something else I think). However, when I went to the website I found that there was also an $80 induction fee. This seems to happen a great deal with 24 Hour Fitness. They advertise a great low fee as the only price to pay and then later tell you about the bigger fee you also have to pay. So what do other think?

1. Yes, both hubby and I have memberships to 24 Hr. Fitness here in Oregon.

We purchased when the club was in an older facility, based on the fact that the new Sports club would have an Olympic-sized pool. This was back in 1999 or maybe 1998.

I think we paid $1100 for a lifetime membership; now they have added a $99.00 per year (or $200.00 yearly for both of us) maintenance fee per person. That was about two or three years into the original membership.

I don't know anything about Lifetime Fitness; perhaps others do.

As for me, since swimming is uppermost in my mind, I wouldn't go to a club without a pool. The three 24-Hour fitness clubs nearest to me all have pools.

PM me if you have further questions.

Good luck!
