From the WTF files.
I just picked up the new painkillers my pain-management doctor thinks might help my hands. With good insurance, the co-pay is $100 for a 30 day supply.

Holy shit! If this stuff works and I end up staying on it, that doubles my monthly out-of-pocket expense for meds.

If I didn't have insurance, the cost for this one med would be $1,500 for a 30 day supply. :wtf:

1. Holy Cripes...
Why don't you just chew on strips of gold or pop diamonds instead? Yeek.

Well, I do hope they work for your problem though.

11. I hope so too.
If they don't then this will be a very expensive experiment.

2. Ouch!
I just switched insurance companies. This new one only covers generic brands of prescriptions. Effexor doesn't have a generic brand. $115 for 30 day supply. That sucks.

I'm sorry TomCat.

4. What about getting them from the net? Florida drugs has really good
prices. You just have to send them you prescription.

PS What kind of pain killer is it? Darvocette has too much Tylenol in it and I'm afraid to take Vicodin even though that works.

8. I don't post the names of my meds online.
But i can say that this is a non-narcotic painkiller that supposedly often works on chronic arthritic pain.

I already have a narcotic painkiller (for other pain/injuries) that doesn't even touch this kind of pain. x(

I'm definitely going to have to see about bulk ordering online.

9. I've lost 70% of my strength
very quickly over the past 6 months and I'm in constant pain. I've been diagnosed with Arthritis, but they're not sure which type yet (either Psoriatic or Rheumatoid).

I don't know if the arthritis is the entire cause. My pain-management doctor thinks there is something else going on that he's still looking for. Bless his heart, he's an awesome doctor.

Don't pop your fingers and try not to type all that much for awhile and see how that helps.

12. I think I've been very lucky up until now.
All my meds have been older, less expensive meds (except my migraine meds). This hand problem is going to change all of that. Holy craperooie is right. :(

14. I hope so too.
I'm typing wearing braces on both hands/wrists. But the braces don't help with the fingers. x(

I'm hoping that in a few weeks I'll be able to post about some improvements.

18. Did you think you would still see
leeching of the sick in the 21st century? Only it's not blood, it's money.

I hope that you find some relief, ThomCat, from both your pain and financial burden.

19. I'm definitely going to pear back my budget a bit.
Between the meds and the adaptive equipment, this is going to crunch things a bit. :(

I hope this helps, too. If it doesn then I'll definitely share some good news and host a celeberation here in the lounge. :)

24. you might be able to reduce your out of pocket cost somewhat...
if you have the doctor write the prescription to be refilled quarterly rather than monthly. This is one of the supposed advantages of getting your prescription medication from those services that deliver your meds to your home via mail or ups or such.

Also ask your doctor if they have any samples from the manufacturer, many times they do.

those costs are outrageous! good luck

25. Indeed WTF.
Those meds are hella-expensive! I hope you won't need quite so many...and I hope that a better climate in medicine/insurance/drugs can be realized sooner than later in this country.

Truly, I'm sorry it's even necessary, Thomcat. I had missed your earlier post at the time, but since saw it and send my support and friendship. Remember you've got people here in all of the boroughs....

Hang tough in the meantime, T. :hi:
